This is the pic i m currently working on. My biggest problem is that i just can t figure out the right colour (saturation and value) for the red armor. I like the upper part of it but the colour in the middle and lower part just s***. I tried to get the right one for an hour now but still did t succeed. Please help or I ll go mad, argh.

What's wrong with it? I wouldn't go any more red than this. More red would hurt the metal feel it has now. It looks good as it is. Make sure the cross on the shoulder follows the curve of the pauldron.
I like this spacesuit. One of the better I've seen. |

Arc][Pello: I just take a round hard edged brush and something about 50 percent opacity in the beginning. When I've got the right values I do the refinement (right english word?) with about 25% opacity.
Just a few background things are drawn with a brush with a soft edge. The whole pic is done in photoshop. Hm, nothing else to say about the way I did this i think.
If you want to know more just ask me a more detailed question.
ehm what does "colour is spot on" mean? |

Wow that's kinda creepy looking. Looks like something he was holding just dissolved into sand or something
Nothing looks wrong with it... just doesn't really look like "armor" kind of looks like space age plastic right now..
maybe mess around with the reflection on it? No idea how that would be done... but i'm sure other people on the forum could answer the question. |

EviLToYLeT: I just added the sand as a test, no idea behind it?!
You are right the armor looks like plastic not metal. I tried to add something like a texture on the grey parts and changed the lighting a bit. Does it look better now, i'm not sure.
Is there somebody who could help me with that?

Very cool spaceguy Nil. ;-)
I don't know if you need to go to the extreme I did with the contrast...but this might help with achieving the look you want of metal.

mythwarden: Thank you for that example. I did not notice before that the colours i'm using are much to less saturated (right english?). And your matal looks much better than mine. I'll try to fix these things in the next step.
In this one i wasn't able to changes these points cause i rust read your crits.

You know, I wouldn't change your final picture at all, Nil. I think the way you did it looks great.
The version I did will help people trying to achieve a shinier version of metal. Not necessarily a better one.

Thank you mythwarden i tried to get something between our versions. I' m not completly happy with it but it's ok for now.
Does somebody know how to make the glas of the helmet looking more real without loosing his face? I worked on this problem some time but I'm not satisfied (right word?).
Maybe two more hours of work and its finished I think.
Any crits?

Hope that this helps...
I actually like the very loose form of the face second from the top. It's eerie, almost scull-like.

I agree Notic, looks like one of the flame throwin guys. But... I think instead of droppin sand he should have a coke bottle in his hands and a big fat smile on his face, like "Damn its good to have a coke when your stranded on a foreign planet with no oxygen." Right now his face looks kinda confused like he cant figure out what the hell hes dropping. But overall i like the pic. I really liked the repaints mythwarden did. Contrast, contrast contrast contrast, cant ever seem to incorporate enough into my pics. |
