Hey everyone. Im new here so this is kinda an intro post as well. Its really easy to tell that im an anime artist, its what I do and I have a natural love for it. Ive been reading posts and it seems not too many people like it but I hope I can show some of my work to get critiques and tips on improving. This is Edea from FF8 I dont typically draw eyes like this but it was a nice change. Could anyone tell me how to shade large areas with a pencil? Ive started to but I want it to be smoothe and clean, and not looking like a 4 year olds scribble work.
BTW im not some 14 year old DBZ fan, you couldnt get me to draw that with a gun to my head. |

i think it's good, and to shade bigger areas, just smooth it out with a finger, thats how i do |

Whooped her ass, both times. But that damned ultimecia is putting me to shame. DAMN THIS ADDICTIVE GAME!!!...Nice pic, knew it was her right away. Need to add a little to the large blank spots as was already mentioned, and do that badass sun bursty deal some justice. It looks wicked in the game. Though i preferred when she had the bird beek mask thing on. Just before she tossed lover girl like a rag doll....this is a good idea.Think ill do a little FF8 fanart of my own.
Edit:Checked out your homepage. Not too shabby, though i dont care too much for the anime style. In your profile you forgot ghost in the shell, that has to be a favorite if youve seen it. Cowboy Bebop is slick though. Night night time... college sucks.

Thanks Guys. Actually using a ruler and added more detail to that sunburst is a really good idea. I just lack any real reference pics. Ghost the Shell is one of my favorites, gotta love gun-wielding chicks, I just didnt put it on my site. As for the shading, I had an art teacher a few years back who said to shade with the pencil tip and not by smuding or anything else. I wonder if he was right or not because it seems to work the same either way just less work.
I loved whooping edea too , however I did put her in my party for that 1 minute when you could actually use her...a very sexy character she is |

Edea was rendered realistically in the game. You need much more shading and many more tones of gray to achieve the same effect. |
