you seem to be building up very nicely. i think you'll do just as well with the skin. one of the most important things to do with skin is just to go for it, and work it out...
that is to say: i like to lay down a rough skin-tone sometimes, then add warms and cools and mess with washes of different hues and intensities. it's something you figure out along the way, but skin tones are basically made up of a simple mixture of yellows, reds, and blues... sometimes the blues are more green than blue. it's all a matter of goofing around and paying attention to how others do it.
in the face, for instance, the lower portion of the face (below nose) sports your cooler colors... the nose/eye area is your warmer/redder colors, while the forhead is more yellow/orange. there are many variations of this, of course, depending on the subject, lighthing, and what mood you want to convey.... but those are some 'general' basic principles to go by.
one of my buddies, ryan wood, actually likes to flop the cools & warms in pretty heavy right from the start, and work in the skin tones with washes from there.. there are many methods... shit -i just hope my ramblings have done some good. sorry if i'm not making any sense... it's beyond late here.
good luck. keep us updated, ok? |

hey thanks alot mike, i guess ive realized as ive started doing this that you do just really have to work it out, and do a lot of painting and repainting.
p.s. does anyone know where i could find some like really professional tuts on how to do comic book style coloring?
oh and whats flattening mean in the world of comic book lingo? |

Those are some great links Kaete.
O-k Here is my thought on what would be beter for the 'cleavage' area. You want the feeling that you could look up into the shirt and see everything, but you can't. Just like upper cleavage if you were high enough you could look down. So I kinda pathetically made the shirt looser on the bottom and brightened the shadow on the bottom to pop it out. Hope it helps.
Feebs - Welcome back been missing your consrtuctive critizism, in the form of a babble.

Do you mean using "Flats" when coloring? It's just a technique that makes selecting sections easier.
Anyway, all that and more is explained here:
http://www.comiccolors.com/index1.html
Here's a cut'n'paste of their tutorial list:

try shading skin with some red tones in the shadows... don't use pure black |

wow. that just got better and better. the end product looks really great.
i'd say hidding nipples is sexier than showing nipples, but each to his own, eh?

One thing I notice is that the detail on her one boot is very high, yet nowhere else do we see that same level of detail (the shorts are fairly blurry). Unless there is something very significant about her boots and laces, you should blurr them out. Either that, or carry the same level of detail throughout the figure. But that's a lot of work. |
