You have a large amount of detail in the tail, attracting the eye in that direction and making the simple paw look out of place. Either use this eye motion as a lead in into your company's name or simplify the tail a little. Either way a rework of the tail could be useful, it is very shaggy and randomized. A more uniform fur would simplify and also make more apparent that it is a dog's tail.

Sorry i was vague there. I was thinking along the lines of a stylized golden retrievers tail, with its longer drooping fur in even rows. I tried to make an example but its a pain in the ass to make and have look good in ten minutes. Maybe have several layers with slight color variation and the color changing from grey to brown using the gradient mesh tool.
An alternative might be to choose a more interesting perspective like from the front of the mouse with the tail curled up to the side but since this would be 3d looking its difficulty level would be high.
Best of luck.

You could try just painting a straight tail, and then applying a warp to make it the right shape. The tail is probably best made in vectors. Keep it very simple!

I need help w/ a logo for a project i'm working on. I had to make this logo for a fake company called Best Friends Forever. Its an online company that basically allows owners who have lost their pets to interact with "virtual pets" so that they can feel like they still have their "mans best friend". What do you think? any suggestions. Comments?

i have this one:

Don't like the lines at the antenna-thingy. i guessthey are supposed to convey movement but they don't look right. Otherwise it's good. Logos should be low detail so that people can remember them.

I don't think the text is working well with the image. I would try a bolder, more condensed sans seriff font.

I think you've got to simplify.
Complicated Logo's are seldom good.

Simple, clean logos:

-Shell
-IBM
-Batman
-Western Digital

to name but a few.
Simple clean colours, and simple, yet dramatic lines.

Remember that a logo isn't a drawing.

Sukhoi

EDIT: I think you paw/mouse idea is VERY good!

don't use an acronym for that name, it's got some unfortunate initials.

Yeah, I agree with most of the posts here, the tail isn't right... I find it a bit creepy even. Looks too crooked/broken and the squares look like skeletal vertebrae or something. *shudder*

I think Sukhoi's simpleness (is that a word?) is GREAT! That logo rocks!

Simplify the tail and I think you should be OK! Long and skinny, like a cat's tail maybe? If you're trying to keep the tail as a "cord"...?

I dunno... just some input/suggestions...

I agree, the font you need to change, it really doesnt mesh with the whole look of the tail. The acronym is really not a good move first of all it doesnt help the logo in any way. The logo is way too detailed, that could be your pictographic logo you can use but I recommend starting with a really strong iconographic logo that has very strong shapes, the ellipses for the paw and the larger all encompassing ellipse shape for the mouse, something else that would look really nice is a paw print within the outline of a hand to try and give the impression of the importance of the relationship man has with dogs. That could be a very simple but very strong logo, thats easily recognisable and easy to remember that leads you into all sorts of options for motion graphics etc. You could have a man make a hand print adn then a dog in the middle of his etc and then have that burn into a computer screen as the background fades into view etc etc etc Hope this has helped you. If you ever need anymore help, drop me a line.

Hey there,

I agree with pretty much everyone's advice. I'm actually a logo designer by trade (identity devlopment).

The guys that said simplicity is best were entirely correct, BUT, it still needs to have visual interest and an impact factor. Things don't always have to be "flat" in a good logo design. Shading is basically ruled out, but you can show form with line just as well. Think outside the box. The others were also dead-on in that it needs to look good in a variety of settings. From letterheads to business cards, etc. If it isn't legible at such tiny resolutions than you gotta tweak it more.

I also suggest starting out in grayscale and adding colour later on if required. Emmm.. that's all I can think of to say right now. It's 5:30am, gimmie a break.

I whipped up a quick (QUICK! ) 5 minute representation of what I was trying to get at:

Take it easy!
