Hullo.
I posted a drawing on the Finished Work forum a few days ago, and someone advised me to lean away from the burn and dodge painting method in Photoshop. I looked around at some other stuff, and decided to try messing around with airbrushing. Using the paintbrush is probably better, but that might be the answer to my own question, anyway.
I started this guy using airbrushing techniques, and, even though he's just a helmet so far, something about it just doesn't seem right to me. Seems like I can't get airbrush painting to look... good... Seems like the helmet is flat. What do you think?

I think its a good start, but you'll have to develop it further. Determine where your light source is, the scene behind him can help in painting it so you have a sense of perspective and depth.
Maybe a sharper edge on the helmet and some sort of light source.
?what else? I don't know. |
