one huge work in progress. first of all, im exploring color (notice the blue tones, and the red) and im trying to mix a more expressive approach with a classical one. (notice the background..) and im wondering how it works overall, is it too busy? to narrow? ahhh, just tell me what you think.

I love this piece!!!

Its got style, its got charisma, and first of all... it doesn't look like something I've seen a thousand times before!!!

Well I think you've succeded to some degree, in drawing forward the figure of the head, by the contrast between the different levels of detailing, even though the background is extremely dynamic. Could be better though! One way of getting even closer to your goal might be to remove the greyish brushstrokes running through the drawing behind the head (The only greyish stroke used!), and thereby setteling for only three colours, white black and the green in the background. Then introduce RED as greens complimentary colour, in the rendering of the face, more than you have allready done (I think I see some red in there somewhere!!), to bring out the face even more!!!

I would be carefull in the use of both green in the background and on the top of the head! The only reason why it somehow works now, is that the head is done very dark, thereby minimizing the effect of the green tone!!!

I immidiately thought of the work of one of Denmarks most famous painters, called Kurt Trampendach, when I saw your work! And THAT is a compliment! You might actually know him, I know he has grown Very popular in North America in the last 15 years! If you don't, you should definately look him up! He's worth the effort, and would for sure be a great source of influence in your attempt in mixing these two different sketching styles!!!

Looking forward to see how you progress!!!

hey, thanks for the great crit arkoh!
the gray strokes will be removed, they were accidental in the first place, but thanks for pointing that out. maybe ill bring in a secondary source of light to brighten up the head a little.

i havent heard of Kurt Trampendach before, and i looked him up on the net and i couldnt find it anywhere as well. so if you know of any online galleries, i would love to see his work.

well I don't blame'ya... I haven't heard of a Kurt TrampeNdach either!!!

On the other hand... I know of a Kurt Trampedach!!! Sorry about that!!! I have been searching the net, for any Site / Gallery showing some of his work, but apparently his existens on the net is a shy as his existens in life! He seems very difficult to track! But I have found a couple of Sites where you can get some kind of Idea of what he's about, not a Very good idea, but however an idea...

First link is a museumshop, showing some reproductions of some of his paintings (Not even pictures of his paintings, but pictures of the reproductions... Sorry!!)

Poster Shop

Next One is his biography, including a couple of images... Not much, and his biography is in danish, and only the image in the bottom of the page is worth anything!!! Once again I appologies!!

Biography

I wouldn't actually say the next one here is of major interest, but what the heck... one painting...

One Painting

Well sadly enough, this seems to be all I could find over the google searchengine in half an hours time!
