I have been avoiding this thread, but I could not no longer. Jesuz, as you know a sketchy subject.
The political rant:
Where would we be if we hid all images/writings of things that are bad? We(Canada, USA, 'Westren Nations') would not be the nations that we are if we had taken the hidden path. What is that poem about paths taken?? Anyways, we are not living a utopia and for us to be able to cope with what is in and out of our nations boarders, we have to take the good with the bad. Otherwise we will never know the better. I don't want to preach the Charter of Rights, but is it not we have based the nations we are so proud of and fight to protect. I just ask you are you going to write a letter to every newspaper, television, Artist/Designer/Illustrator, that has a depiction of Bin Laden? Perhaps this is Jesuz way of dealing with his emotions and thoughts of 9/11. Is that not also a foundation of the very form of Craft we practice here. I hope this a rant that makes a difference. I hope this rant is not taken the wrong way. I hope this is the end of bickering.

Now for the Critique part.
Jesuz I think you are have some great things going well here. I would really like to see an up date. I was wondering if you were going to look into adding some kind of background. I am not talking about a full out image, but some burlap cloth with some fadded Arabic lettering, or a crumbling mud brick wall behind the figue.
What happened to the second image with the other portiat. Perhaps we can get started on that painting. These are oils are they not, great for handling for layer building.

Good Luck
JA

Well, he definitely succeded in attracting attention...Isn't that the meaning of art? Ok that was a bit far-fetched...
But I like the panting in an artists point of view anyway...

Instead of a crumbling wall, why dont you just have a computer running Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 ? Or maybe some flowers and some rainbows, and maybe some little kids running around and playing .. mm I think thatd suit it verrrrry nicely... gimme a break. If you seem to hate him so much ... e.g. wanting to cut up your painting later, why not make it an image that would evoke feelings to display in memory of those lost! Instead it looks like a family portrait?!? Have the towers exploding in the background. Itll put the face to the event and keep it in peoples mind, if you want people to hate him. Itll be an eternal memory of the moment captured by your art. But as you havent done this I have no doubt where your loyalties lie.

When I read alot of these comments, I realize that most are of people that think of art as something neat. Not something that is a vital part of human society and the role that it does play. Most probably are taking art in highschool with a teacher who is close minded to the idea of exploring art. If this is truly something you are passionate about, then go to school and get an education. Art is simply more than simple 2D canvas paintings of realistic/cartoony images. I am proud of Jesuz of taking this to the next level, and I damn hope he succeds. Some may argue with me, perhaps alot will argue with me. I know that this is traditionally a Digital forum, but media should not matter that much. They are the same ideas just different ways of approching it.

i don't mean to provoke anyone, BUT many of you seem to be missing an obvious point. he does't need to show how evil this man may be. shit, his image alone even in incomplete form seems to be pissing many of you off. he doesn't need skulls, blood, fire, buildings, or anything other than the face of that man to evoke feelings of distain amongst so many of you. so quit saying that it seems incomplete subjectively b/c it lacks the show of the painter's personal feelings. it doesn't have to be neither pro nor anti anything to get a reaction.

i agree with basement bound and tinusch

I agree.. this thread is a waste of time.. this is art.. the artist created some art.. just like some one created hitler... big deal.. why make it into a dispute about.. "oooh.. u like osama." or "no no.. I dont like him"

He has done some terrible things.. but dont blame a person who painted his face.. big deal..

Well, I too had desided to stay away from this thread, but I seem to have been deeply inspired by the comments by basement bound, so here we go...

I know there's alot of anger and frustration involved in this, that inevitably will push surden people over the edge, seing a painting like this, and just to aproach those of you thinking that "hes not american", he couldn't possibly undestand", then I will tell ya, that even I have shed tears over this tragedy, and over the unbelievable madness that drove these people to this extreme, but let me just cut trough to the bone here... I REFUSE to let this man or any such "***" up fundamentalists get in the way of what art is really about! As Basement bound, wrote "art isn't neat", and ohhh how right you are!! Art is above all this, art is objectivity, art is a peacefull passion, art is where we all can meet, no matter origin, race and religion. But to be able to come together like this, and embrase art, we will all have to let go of our anger, frustration, fears and prejudices. I have the same feeling now, as when someone that does not feel art from within, tell me that I am a pervert, because I take classes in croquis drawing (dont know if learning to draw from nude models, is called this in english).

I dont believe this is the right forum for discussing politics or the tragedy of september the 11th. But lets discuss what art really is instead, and what people practizing art really are, judged by the way their pen moves, and not what it moves!!!
