For those who are interested:
I have saved a progress history from my troll-picture and it can be downloaded here:

absolutely great work and thanks for this great starting help Svarling .
just one newby question : what do you use for drawing in PS ? is it brush ?
do you have size and opacity on the pen ..or do you always have same size brush , as it looks like same size, just many strokes to get think lines ?
are these different greys or just different opacities ?
thanks again for your help and sorry for asking so many questions, but this really would help me out :-)

how did you go about coloring your work? Do you start with the grey and then go in and use the grey as a guide or do you like start from scratch with coloring? |

As you can see in the images i start out from a gray background and draw the image in B/W. Colors are added as a last step, using the standard brush tool but with the mode "color" in Photoshop. |

Hello, glad you liked it!
For this pic i only used the dodge/burn tool in photoshop and the smudge tool. Dodge/burn is a very fast method with smooth results. Though in the end it looks more than an airbrushimage than a painting.
I start with a bigger brush to get a
rough feeling how the light and shadows appear. Then i get into details by using the
next smallest brush or the smallest. It's often the very small highlights that gives the image sharpness. About 40-50% opactity
works fine for me.
The smudgetool was used for the hair. For that i used about 95% opacity and a very small brush. The dodgetool could also be used here to make the hair more shiny.
More questions? Bring em on!
Good luck! |
