Hi,

haven't posted for a long while. But now I'm working on something new

It's just a lot harder as I expected.. so please give me some C&C, thnx.

A stone block with cracks:

Any tips for making it look realistic? The 'hol' is the front is not as 3D as I want it to be, but it just doesn't get any better..

Hey, the highlight on the crack seems to be of the same intensity all around the edge, which doesn't look quite right to me. Well, that's pretty much all I can help you out with myself.

Hello--This is my first-time post. Your texture and lighting are good. I recommend getting a cube (any block of something), set it down in front of you at the angle you're trying to represent, and look hard at it.

The only time you will see a perfect square when you look at a cube is when it is directly in front of you, at eye level. When you have it set like that, you won't see any other faces. It will be a perfect, two-dimensional square. At the angle you've set your cube, you won't see any right angles at all. The bottom edge of your forward faces will BOTH slant upward on the page, an at different angles. The vertical edges will all be vertical, but none of the other edges will be horizontal.

That's how we make perspective work. In order to draw a three-dimensional object in two dimensions, we have to draw things that we know cannot be true, but in two-dimensional space, they will "look right."

Do write me back if I can help you, and I recommend the wonderful book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" to help you "see" the cube accurately. ;-) Looks Terrific--keep going!

Stephen

Hi, Again--

I've created a line drawing of a cube to overlay your drawing, so you can see what I mean.

I offer it respectfully--

Stephen

You should use a point of origin for each axis (I think...). This way your sides get a better perspective, something like this:

Left box if you look upwards, right box if you look downwards.
