This is my first landscape with a photo reference. If any of you super talented people out there could give me some pointers before i really screw this up, i'd appreciate it. Also, I'd like to know what art schools you guys think are good. I've been accepted to one already, but i'd like to apply to a few more before my fate is set in stone. Anyway, here they are:
and the photo reference:
*EDIT*

Looking good, refine, refine and refine some more. Amazing how when instituting a new approch, how one does so much better.

updated again... can it get more detailed? I mean... how far can you with the detail of a digital painting such as this. By the way, the hi res version is in 1024x768... it's gonna be my desktop when i'm done.

"can it get more detailed?"
heh, it can always get more detailed... it just depends on when you feel you've done enough...
"the hi res version is in 1024x768"
one word of advice, if you'd care to hear it... it's probably a better idea to work at a higher resolution than you want your final product to be... for example, if your final picture will be 1024x768, work on it at somewhere around 2048x1536, or something like that, as long as your computer can afford the horsepower... this way you can zoom in and work on details more precisely... in addition, resizing (both down and up) also softens the look of the pic, and reduces any little flaws that may be inherent in the original painting...
anyways, good work so far, definitely looks much better than your original attempt... the cliff on the right could still use a lot of work, though...
also, the little boats seem to be disjointed from the water, for lack of a better description... not sure how i would go about remedying that, though... |
