Ok, I have played around with the lighting here and color scheme. Of course it isn't finished just yet, but I think I have adjusted the lighting correctly this time, but you never know, maybe I didn't.
DON'T mind the background...I have no idea what I was thinking there hehe...an attempt at mist w/o reference. Anywayz, this is what I have learned thus far...it is important that you hack away in order I can keep adjusting to the correct method of a painting (at least the style I am trying anyway).
Thanks in advance

Hi Indian!
I have one point of critism. You have a tendency to add light to a figure using only white. That technique doesn't do your creatures justice! I enjoy your painting abilities, but the "adding of white" isn't looking that good IMHO...
It seems you only have two hues of green in the image. A saturated one and a desaturated one. I believe that if you toyed with adding a few more hues of green or a coloured secondary lightsource, your images would liven a lot!!!
Keep up the good work!!
BIW: The front left arm looks great!!!

Thanks Sukhoi
I added the white in at the last minute because people have mentioned that my pictures look difused. Hmm, guess I'll try a different approach |

please, don't force his tail stay in the picture, looks like it hurts
Just let it go offscreen and this one could look more natural =)

allright. a few things that I noticed right off the bat IP: the painting's very desaturated. this creature is alive! may it's color be vibrant! ok. so we'll assume you've chosen a more vivid green. next we'll talk about your highlights. it looks like you're just overlaying with white. instead of doing that, choose a lighter green and go over with that. don't limit yourself to two hues of green and black and white. (you'll see in the paintover I did.) also, there is reflected light on the belly, however the shadow is going to be much greater and over bearing than it. so you'll have a slim stroke of a lighter green on the belly, but the rest will be shadow. there's also a general rule of thumb for shadows. if it's a warm lightsource, such as the sun, the shadows are cool. if the lightsource is cool in color, the shadows are going to be warm. it doesn't always work this way, but it usually does. I hope this all helps, and here's a quick paintover I did to give the arm more saturation and to give it some deeper shadows and a correct shadow under the foot. happy painting!

Hi there, this lizard of yours have a mighty big tail, maybe a bit to mighty ... ? If you look at other similar reptiles, the mass of the tail is not as great as that of the whole animal. The pose is nice though, but the textures could still use some attention.
Check this link out, high-rez Reptile reference ... esp. the Gators
Notice the details in the feet and skintexture ...
That's all .. |
