nice little bike, although unlike the big-wheel you have for your other girls, this one seems much less balanced, it just feels like somone stole her front wheel

as for the girl, she must work out a LOT look at those legs!! and for some reason it seems to me like the ribcage dosnt go down far enough on the sides, other than that the rendering is great and clothing seems to... fit great job, I do similar quality work when copying photographs, not out of my imagination

I see you've spent significant time around her mid-rift section! I'm not too keen on the intense muscle around her leg - not sure if that is how you intend it. I don't think she'll get far with one wheel! (Sorry I couldn't resist).

You are heading in the right direction although, You may want to think about tidying the mechanics of the bike up a bit. Good. Good.

She looks a bit stiff...
Like she would be holding her breath and have a nightstick stuck up her ass .

She might be a bit more relaxed or something. She's so tense I can see her muscles vibrating ( or what is it, when you tense your muscle and it starts.. well.. vibrating, you know =) ).

Hi Steven!
I cant help to think that the front looks a little rushed. It looks a basket for dirty laundry I'm thinking hammerhead shark, you know, a little wing to stabilize the bike at high speed or something.

Great skill!!! I'd like to get ol' dirty with pens and paper one of these days, too.
Ahh...reminicent of the good ole days!!

Looking good so far....

quick question... why black & white?
I've noticed that you (and alot of others) have been working in black and white lately and I was just wondering why...
Is it easier to work with? Do you plan on adding color later? I don't know, just curious I guess.

i saw the second version on lumental, but since i'm not worthy i had to find the pic on sijun to reply.

i have seen some of your other work, most recently the tank thing, and this one just really stood out. i like the contrast between the sketchy bike and rendered chickarooni. i think it'd work out well if you left the bike as it is, maybe render a few things that u want to pop out, and leave it like that. it's kind of gimmicky, yes, but it certainly left an indelible first impression.

i also wanted to ask you a question. i first saw your 3d work on raph.com. and i wrote you off as a pure 3d artist. i wonder what you feel about 3d vs drawing/painting? are they equals in terms of fulfillment, creativity, control? or do you ultimately prefer one over the other.

regards.

Thanks again, everybody!
I updated the sketch again, sorry I can't post them all separately, I over-wrote the second one you see above.

Why black and white? I stink at doing color without reference. It's just so much harder than grayscale. Look at the first version, then the second (well third actually), see all the problems I've been fighting with these past several days (take my word, it's been slow and gradual), now imagine if I had to solve all the color problems at the same time... I don't know if I'll add color later, maybe... anybody feel free to color it if you want.

Oh yes, the segway scooter, now I remember.

edit: How do I feel about 3d vs drawing/painting? are they equals in terms of fulfillment, creativity, control?

That has changed for me already several times in my life. 20 years ago I couldn't imagine ever giving up drawing and painting, but that's what happened when I burned out as an illustrator in Hong Kong. When I was getting into 3d - early 90's - I couldn't imagine ever tiring of it, and by the late 90's I couldn't imagine ever feeling like painting again. But here I am, 2002, getting a bit burned out on 3d, and getting more and more into 2d art again.

Happy New Year!

Steve, I was looking around on your site last night and I noticed that you really don't post much 2d paintings. what do you do with all these cool paintings that you make? I remember an awesome one you did with a girl hitchhikeing on teh edge of a cliff a while back- but outside of the forums i haven't seen it all. I know that you would rather have 3D in your portfolio than 2D, but I think it couldn't hurt to put these picks up. any reason why you don't have them in a gallery? or am i just not looking in the right sections of your page?

A problem...
Her foot must be massive, hehe!
The boot seems to need a higher heel, if she hasn't got an extremely large foot that is. The boot it too steep, or the heel is too short...(shoe and foot anatomy is hard in english hehe)
I hope you know what I mean.

I only do work in color with reference material myself-'cause I can't see most colors...r/g colorblind-I love doing detailed sketch/drawings in b/w. Your work is wonderful-and I don't use that term often.
Tho' I would rework that left ankle area; I think if the foot were moved forward a bit, and the boot were narrowed it'd work. Looks like a cross between go-go boots and the large 'anime type' of footwear.
Killer work. Please let us see more. thanks, don.

Thanks for the input about the boot, I followed your advice, and worked some more on it, see above.

geoman2k, thanks, I've been thinking about doing what you suggest, putting some more 2d stuff in my gallery, now I'll definitely do it.

Greetings

Steve I must admit your site is full of awesome 3d art. Now I see you are just as good with 2d art also. How did yu do this picture. You say you are getting back into 2d work, does that mean digital art or just in general? This piece looks like it is on paper but I am wondering how you are getting that smooth wait...I think I just figured it out. You penciled it on paper and scanned it into the pc and then produced render in photoshop or painter 6 correct?

Let us know when you get some 2d work up at your site.

Peace

Thanks! I just did it (added some 2d stuff to my gallery 3). I also updated the biker cop a little.

(Yes that's a scanned sketch.)

Cool! Love the blue and gold theme for the bike. And I really love that iridescent jacket! Wish I had one of those.

(That is the updated one, I keep over-writing version 2 above with the next one whenever I've worked on it for a while. Next updated should be up tomorrow.)

Steven, a quick question.

How long does it usually take you to finish a picture like this? I've been out of the loop when it comes to painting the last couple of years. It would be nice to know how much time other people spend on a piece before moving on, I tend to linger

Nice one btw.
