Just a little something I did in Max with Sub-D modeling. Rendered with a 2 1/2-D look (hair was done with Shag: hair plug). Took it into Photoshop and got busy. I have a real strange way of doing still images. Starts 3-D and turns into somekind of "volumetric toon". Oh, well. I love experimenting. Now if I can just get off the crack. j/k Anything I should change? Before I release him on the world.

I really like the look of it.
Is the shading is actually still from the 3d rendering? Or did you alter the shading later.
It just looks neat. Very cool.

Ok..I somehow posted something twice. (My coffee is still untouched..so thats probably it.)
So now I have to say something new..er..
Like the hair too.
I've been thinking about trying to achieve a look like that. But I suddenly got really sick and tired of anything 3d. (Probably since I am working full time on a superboring architecture job in 3d right now)
So I'll stick to pencil and brush for a while.

Glad you like it. The shading is from the render. I mixed the flat shader with a 3-D shader to get an even balance. Levels, layers, and touchups were done in Photoshop. |

that's really cool, it would make an interesting tutorial since you went through so many distict steps to get to this (it's mostly filters so it's easier to do a tut of right?

That is really a nice mix. It would be interesting to see a (non-toon?) realistic image used with the process you used here. Something along the line of Pascal Blanche's work, I think. |

Thanks guys. I'll see what I can do about a tut. I've actually thought about this method, using other-style characters and environments. I'm just in a different mode these days. I'm getting tired of seeing photoreal images done in 3D. Just trying a little something different. |
