What ??? She's not nude !! And that chemise could be considered like a cocktail gown as well.. But hey, sex sells right ?
Must be the board's kinky influence of these last weeks

Usually non-professional looking manga makes me uncomfortable. Yes I like some titles a LOT but can't help but cringe at novice manga art. It's strange tho, there's such a void between the talented (or just more experienced) and .. let's say neophytes.
Nevertheless I decided to give it a go and GAWD it's hard to try a new style.. I'm not quite there yet, but it was fun. And hey, it's actually my second drawing only

It took me a LONG TIME in photoshop to clean up ;p There still is work to do on the line thickness and the shoulder blades will be defined in the next step. Hm I now notice the arm thickness being a problem.
Anyway, I'll colour it, clean another sketch and then leave manga stuff to someone else. It was nice trying to figure it out tho

I'm expecting to get ripped appart by the manga buffs out there and also by the legion of hard-assed critics that seem to have marched in the forum lately. egads.
But as usual if you have crits/tips, feel free !

At least it was quick to load.. *quickly jumps in her asbestos suit*
Don't hesitate to pelt me with questions if any arise..

The pose and such is nice, and it is tastefull, yet something in the hair and jawline looks masculine. I cannot put my finger on it, maybe one of the uber pros will help ya out, gonna give ya a nice bump.

LOL !!! Well actually both your comments thrill me ! Her character (yes a girl) is trying hard to look androgynous by defiance.. *shrug* But I much prefer her in a feminine outfit thus trew some classy light clothing on her.
The hair were a real pain to do and I have a few hairstyles sketches tryouts. Not my fave but the character had to have something like that.
Anyway.. yes yes thank you ! I'll make the arms a little more thinner (that deltoid looks massive) and a breast show JUST slightly.

If she looks like a guy, it must be in a similar way to Switch from the Matrix, who is also clearly a girl but has a lot of guy features.
I had no idea drawing Manga takes so much care and effort, though. Always thought , in my ignorant opinion, it was just painting large eyes and tiny noses on characters with bodies drawn more or less the same style as westerners do.
You've gone to a lot of trouble to refine the linework on this character and it clearly shows. Cool stuff!

She is fantabulous -- and yes, masculinely sexy. In a feminine way. There is much to be said for an artist who can convey these things, particularly in so few lines. When I draw girls, they're scruffy and only by accident anywhere near the image in my head. Nicely done.

Is there more to the shot? Will you be coloring it?

Please forgive this liberty, but I was floored when I saw your site. You've got so much talent it hurts:

Hello,

That is a beautiful drawing. There's really nothing to critique. Your drawing is excelent, your line weight control has great delicacy and you have a good knowledge of anatomy. The only thing left to do is to nitpick

You could try using your line width to indicate a little bit of depth. Use thicker lines for her forward shoulder so it jumps a little ahead of her face, I've seen really precise work that even made the nose thicker than the line of the face. What scale will be the final medium?

But again, this is just searching my memory for something to say. It's a wonderful drawing, technically and aesthetically well executed. Good job.

sincerely,

gotta give ya credit. I agree changing drawing styles is difficult but I think you did a great job with it. post the colored version when you're done.

why not just take pen and ink and draw her in minutes instead of hours touchy-feely with ps?

Thanks Highfive. Switch was the blond one ? If that's her she scared me altho some of my friends thought she was hot !
I read somewhere that 'manga' meant something like "popular and quickly done drawing that everyone could understand". Anyway, I suppose the people doing that all the time whip out a masterpiece in no time. What I found hard was trying to mock a completely new style.

Oh wow Little Bee I hope I won't have to pay you for that praise Practice, practice, all the time.. Doodle etc. (this was a doodle when I couldn't sleep)

tdl: Nitpicking help realise things Hmmm you're right about line variation. I'll be sure to remember that in my next drawing (and tweak this one). The scale you see it here is 50 % of the original so.. pixel pushing galore

hovair : I will probably tonight !

Anthony J : Sir yes sir !!

Leo: because then it wouldn't be an experiment would it ? No really, I ran out of ink..! And "hours" could be a little exagerated

Boy I smile a lot my cirtual cheeks hurt.
