this is the final sketch before i transfer it onto canvas. so, here's the work.

www22.brinkster.com/liserstudios/wip-temptation4girl.jpg i didn't shrink the pic here, and i scanned it in big... i can barely mess around with her right eye, it's really small in real life.
i must have redrawn this 6-8 times. i'm a perfectionist... and it's still not perfect!
question for any pros or experienced artists here... do i seem to be at a decent level for a 17 year old senior in high school? I've been drawing for about 2 years now... so i'm just wondering if you think i'm at a decent level, and what i should improve on. i want to go to Joe Kubert some day... but i don't know about that... you have to be GOOD.

Like the girl's facial features and expression. I can see what kind of personality she has. The way the hair flows it great, too.
She's got a pretty difficult pose to draw from imagination, though. You might want to find a reference photo or get someone to perform that pose. Good attempt anyway.
Just a reminder, too, that if the image isn't actually finished and you're going to progress further with it, it's best to post it on work in progress. It will get looked at just as frequently there. |

this is work in progress, isn't it? lol

Yeah its not bad! I agree, the facial lines and proportions are pretty well done, but if I was to give you any advise... and it do seem like I am about to do exactly this... then I would suggest you worked more with the depth of your drawing! Your character is very flat, and you have obviously chosen to draw her more outlined than anything else, I see you have tried to add shadows and depth to your drawing, but in such a gentel and shy maner that it looks as if you are afraid of what it might do to the overall undestanding of your object. I would suggest that you worked alot more with the shading and thereby dimentional shaping of your object, instead of it, as now being the silouet that are the most dominant part of your drawing!
Now you might be thinkin... well its just a sketch, I will be doing alot more to the shading and all from here on! Then my respond to that would be... You would obviously gain alot not only in your drawing technic, but also in the way you look at a subject, especially if you werent to draw this figure out of your emagination, if the shading and dimentional shaping was incorporated into your preliminary studies of the subject.
Hope you can use this if not for anything else, then maybe as inspiration for some drawing exercises.
But definetly keep at it... and let us know how it all turns out! ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |
