just something I'm working on.. I was thinking of drawing a landscape in the background, but I kinda wanted to keep the wash visible aswell.
also is this guys head annoyingly to big, and to much to the right, or am I just being anal.

oh ya this is colored pencil on watercolor paper. photo reference used
edit- oh ya I used design markers under some of the shadowed parts, and obviously the background is a wash- watered down acrylic

I think your proportions are fine, but don't take my word for it, check them against your reference. If anything, you may be confusing the length of his neck for an oversized noggin. . . .

Just a thought...

You could do a background out of perhaps a stucco wall (which would fit the tone but also provide cool tones) and have the desert sprawl out below...
...just a thought.

It looks awesome already though so definitely just go with your instinct...

I don't know if the head is too big really, but I would say the chest needs to be broader to balance out the head. Considering the size of the arms and head, I would make the chest wider and then I think it will fall into place. I also think the lighting on the left forearm is a little too big or needs to blend into the rest of the arm more.

I like the detail in the shirt and forearms and overall a very nicely done portrait.

Thanks
hmm ya making the chest bigger proabably would help.. and your totally right I didn't notice the left arm was so bright. unfortuneatly I don't think I can make the chest to much bigger cuase colored pencil doesn't erase very well.
I guess I should learn to paint digitally, I may draw a background on another piece of paper and add it as a 2nd layer. I think that would work. Desert is a good idea, the origianl photo has a really light blue sky. I think that would work. oh ya and the guy is gonna have jeans instead of just floating there
