ignore me if you don't agree ... but ... something seems not right about the green ... or is it his right leg?
i'm not sure ... needa think about it a little longer.
well, seems natural.
nothing wrong, i'd say. |

hopefully this will read better, K.
made some changes, tried to make it more narrative, and more clear.
whatcha think he's doing?

Hes gonna send a signal, right after he falls over the edge. Might wanna shift a little more weight toward the left foot. |

Ya, i've gotten the off-balance comment a few times. i'll fix it.
Does it look like an improvement over the other at least? |

a pro on the arrangement.
a big pro on his weapon and face ... and his overall body seems more convincing. definitly a step forward.
so wanna know what he appears do be doing?
arrowhead thick - match in his hand? fire a burning arrow?
archers tended to use coals or some holes with something burning inside ... not matches ... but this is totaly unimportant.
by the way, i don't think you messed his balance ... but if you feel like the others were right ... change it.
it will depend on the final image how balanced it looks (the rock will show it).
IF you change it, you might lose that "leaning over" look ...
have fun ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

Okay, cool.
yeah, the more i look at it, the less out-of-whack he seems... between his left foot and the bow, i think he has enough counterweight.
I will be moving him further right in the composition though, i think, rather than him looking off the edge of the piece.

Trust me, hes gonna attempt to fly any second now. That bow will NOT counterweight the full grown man. It would work if his weight was being disperced straight down but with his tilted left leg and slanted feet hes definitely saying his last prayers. |

Oh yeah, well... ummmm... it's really windy too, so, uh.. that's waht's holdin' him up.
so there.
hehe
... seriously though.. he's definately a little "off-balance" but not to the point of falling over. I'm not counting on the weight of the bow so much as the arm and other leg. His center of gravity is pretty low and his head is only slightly forward of the ball of his foot where he's balancing.
I'll try a couple things when i tweak it again and see... i'd like to keep that tension in the image... as long as it's "tension" and not "wrong".
peering over the edge rather than falling over.
another thing too, is that when i drew it, his elbow was supposed to be resting on his thigh... i dont' know if that's coming across as it is right now.

where'd the pikemen go?
balanced him a bit better, and tried to make the piece read better compositionally.
can put guys in the background again later maybe...

The background looks way cool now, but I would like to see what it is he's looking at.. right now it looks like he's sizing up the gap he's about to jump across. |

yes, he's got more than one arrow now.
but - still - the picture does not tell what he's really doing. |

Hello,
Remember the sillhoute rule, it'll be very hard to tell that he has a match in his right hand if it's the same value as his hand.
A match seems a bit small too, how about making it obvious with a big ol' torch, and make the tip of the arrow white soaked raggs. I like alot how this has been progressing. Hard work will get you everywhere.
Disclaimer: I just started digital art, but i do know a little about art (see other posts). I'm also new at this forum.
sincerely, |

Thanks all.
I'm posting this before i get too tired to deal with uploading a version after i work on this for a few more hours.
I'm not sure how much more narrative i'm going to be able to make it. I'm going to finish rendering this one and go back to the original Pikemen idea later and redo that one. This just kind of evolved.
As for the match and sillhoute, very good point. I'll see what i can do with the lighting on the hand and such, and definately am able to do the rags, and make that more obvious.
oh yeah, almost forgot the image.

figured i'd put up another step.
More rendering on the character and work on the waterfall and bg. Trying to put more "green" into the bg to join to the tunic thingy. |

Cool man, I think you should add some harder highlights on the boots to matc hthe lighting on the rest of the body. Great job on the progress shots and stuff.. pretty cool |

Dry, yeah... i've still got a few more passes to go on most of it, esp lower right area to middle. And it's good to hear that the stages posted aren't getting on people's nerves.
Justa, thanks. I hope for it to keep getting better. If you end up finding something that bugs you, smack me ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |
