Hi there.
Glad Sijun is up and running again.
I'm doing this bookcover about 3 men a boy and a train.
The setting is Ireland anno 1899
Crits and comments appreciated.

Looks good so far - is it for a children's book or a serious novel? Cause the style is pretty cartoony, which may or may not fit the style of the book. Keep at it, nice work! |

I like the layout, might I suggest though (it may be cliche or over done) but what if the angle of the tracks tapered the opposite way and the train was going the other direction, so that the smoke from he train could be used for the framing of the male figures.

Very promising indeed, love the sketch and the colour scheme! Here's a pair of suggestions of the direction I would go with this piece:
You might also want to consider putting the characters/objects in priority order (strongest outlines for the most important person in the book etc.), like so:

damn , thats pretty nice. dont know why you would want help on it. i would just make the drawings tighter, less sketchy, but other than that its a pretty cool layout and style, AND color.

The only thing I would like to coment is that it is in Ireland....but it looks like a dessert landscape in the US of the same time perioud. Ireland is a island...it is famous for its color green...because that is what 99% of the place is..green....vast hills of green green gras. The bridge..seems kinda out of place to...remember Ireland is a part of europe..and europe has a looong and old history..contrary to the US. The bridge would probably have been build in stone..and the cliff seems to high...for a "typical" ireland scene....
Found this nice site with pictures of Ireland: http://www.iol.ie/~discover/images.htm
anyhow..my thoughts on it..

hey... thanks alot you all!
dARCKLOWN > cheers :-)
Anthony > it would be for the age 9-15 or so
Basement bound > that might just be a good idea... though i kinda like the train to go that way... but good point with the smoke!
Bg > thanks alot for the paintovers!
I like the warm yellow on the first one, I think I'll use that in the final!
and the priority order is cool also!
squirrelstars > thanks... this IS a sketch, so the final will definitely be less sketchy ;-)
AKIRA_x > you got a point there! I'll go for the stonebridge... I forgot to tell you that it's late summer/winter, therefore no green trees! thanks for the pictures though!

mmh..winter..still avoid the yellow tone, to dessert like. you want dark brown on stones..fading to black, and alot of snow making the image very bright...you could still add green..there are green things in winter time too..moss on stone for example.
Found this winter photo from Ireland, and as you see..the brown goes to black further up the moutain, then snowy white:
keep up the good work!!
