Lee,
congrats on getting commissioned.

rapid-fire feedback:
The backpacks your marines are wearing aren't jetpacks, they're power generation and ventilation and such. In that configuration they should just be running around on foot.
Also, if you want them to have jetpacks, they should have pistols and close combat weapons, as i dont' think you can have a bolter and a jetpack.
check this link for assault marines with jetpacks.

Aside from that, the marines are handled well. Good job.
The sky looks great too.

The genestealer's pretty solid, i'd watch the tangent between the top of his head and the ridge... could be potentially confusing compositionally.

That being said, i can't really say whether this is a marine or a tyranid card.
Right now, it appears as if the marines are sweeping after the lone genestealer as it flees from them.
If that's the intenton, cool.
If it's a Tyranid card, the 'stealer should be much more menacing.

my double-copper.

Do you lay down flats and burn/dodge or use transparent brushes? Do you smudge? It looks cool by the way. Can't wait to see it finished.

I am working on this for the Warhammer 40K CCG. I dont play the regular game and I'm taking a crash course in Space Marine body armor. If anyone can let me know how accurate I'm not, it would be appreciated.

Art and design crits also welcomed.

I'm just trying to find different successfull techniques for photoshop, but if you're talking about how i should think artistically: "got it". THanks, later.

This is awesome. I must say, unless the card is "Genestealer Bushwhack" I think the composition could use some work. Its an awesome peice already though. Marines look great, and only somebody anal (like your client ) would need to critique the jetpacks THAT closely.

Add some more elements of interest in the dead areas of the image. Make it a WARZONE, but keep your primary characters the focus.

Docfunkalot:
Dont think in terms of "dodge/burn". This is counterproductive. Think in terms of value, color, and saturation.

Just got back from Vegas. Fun trip. I highly recommend the Paris hotel.

jerO - Crap!! Thanks for the reference. I laid this out in a game shop with W40K gamers and none of them mentioned the jetpacks. I'll fix the packs but I may just leave the guns for now and chalk it up to experience.

docfunkalot - I draw the image freehand then clean it up and scan the more refined (yet still pretty loose) pencils. I flat out all the major sections, select all and copy the flats (but not the pencils) and paste it in a new channel. I use this channel so I can select an area quickly later. Then I paint using pretty much just the airbrush tool. I have an extensive collection of custom brushes and only use the Dodge and Burn tools for minor large area value adjustments. Try using the Multiply, Screen, Desaturate etc... functions of the airbrush instead of the Dodge and Burn.

Scooby - Glad you like the Marines. I will change the packs because I feel its important to be as accurate as possible but i will leave the guns because I dont have time to change the pose from two handed weapons to 2 one handed weapons. I am curious as too what you dont like about the composition. The concept is kind of a death from above thing.

edited for bad spellin'

I think scooby's question is similar to the one i posed, and that, if this is a "death from above" card, it needs to be a Marine unit.

If that's the case, then you're cool.
If it's a Tyranid card, then it might get vetoed.

I echo his point about having more going on though. The rocks are looking really good, but it's almost as if there's but one genestealer within 30 kilometers and he's just running around.

I know Paul has been pretty insistent on there being a war going on in the background.

just some thoughts.
