aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrgggggggggggg! *pulls hair out*

this is a female face, supposed to be a tomboy looking type... Not only do I suck at faces, but I managed to pick the most difficult subject, how to bring out masculine(boyish) and feminine features at the same time.. ahhhhhh!

Well, both boys and girls have lips. But I think it looks great other than that.

see, Im finding it very hard to portray lips with line art without making it look like 1920's lipstick on her...

hmm, the top lip always has a shadow, if you don't draw it , it'll look like kermit the frog lips.

Hmm, so in short, its gonna take value to define them, I don't see anyway of portraying just with line... thats ok. Something to tweak later, thnx.

Not sure if this will help you or not. Lips being fleshy and all don't contain much line work, just small ways of hinting at their presence. Unless they do have lipstick on.
Hope it helps, of course your character's lips don't have to look like these.

briareos:: It doesn't necessarily take shading and values to give something definition. Take a look at some cartoon lineart or something. You can see that there's a lot of volume given. Drawing a front on view is hard to assign volume to..

but, if you insist on doing all lines, you need to rely on line weight.. (thickness of liens). Might be a good idea to ask someone to demonstrate that you.

Well since everyone else is giving it a crack, Here I GO... I think the drawing is full of character and charm as is. But if you must push it further then here are my suggestions, as well as the obligatory paint over. I find that when ever you draw girls or women, it is the eyes that really give it a gender specific feel. also the shape of the chin is important. and no large Adam apples, of course.
Any way there are quite a few other things to keep in mind also. Just find a balance in the features that makes the character feel the way it should. As for line work, just be careful and sensitive about weights and overlapping shapes. I had a teacher tell me that I should use dark or thicker lines when shapes overlap, or tuck into each other or when you are trying to bring some thing forward.
Well on to the paint-over, once again I really like the original drawing, and if you haven't already you really should watch EVERY single episode of Cowboy Bebop. there is a character in there that reminds me of this drawing, a 12 year old girl named Ed.
Besides the show is amazing!
Keep kickin ass

WOW, absolutly amazing KOryH , sigh... that really helps alot. Thanks, yes I have seen every episode of Bebop, and Ed is my favorite character.... I guess you saw some inspiriation show through This character's personality is alot different, but I tried to keep the tomboy feel that Ed has (maybe not as MUCH as Ed has, hehe). Thanks again, helps loads...
