bascially im working on an alien scenery and im attempting to put in buildings in the background (a little blured) for distance effect and ruins of plants and rubble in upclose and far away, but i am unable to figour out how to do this.
secondly my method is to do everything in black and white by dode, burn with midtones and highlights, i was wondering if this is the ebst way to do such things.
i also need help in general how to improve
(ive only worked on this for about 1hour)
Edit: keep in mind this is in really early stages

Hi,
The second pic has potential, but I feel is lacking in consistency, as opposed to having numerous lighting effects on it, try just using one effect, such as the blue light, I like that colour. Also try looking at the work of http://www.johnbolton.com, his style is similar to the one in this pic, and I love the texture he manages to get in his paintings. Although he is not a digital artist, the principles of colour and texture don't really change.
The first pic too could benefit from texture and colour also, it's the dull colour I dont really like, but I like the general wierdness of your work!
