Like the colours. The background though is rather distracting. And that guy down at the bottom really breaks things up, in my opinion. The flares also seem to be fighting against it instead of working with it. I also think you should move the center piece a bit to the left and up to make it off-center to add more interest. |

Thanks for the constructive comments Gerbil...I not sure if I explained what this image really is? The Glowing rectangle in the middle is the actual poster to scale.
The stuff outside the glowing rectange is the same poster shown at actual pixel level...The strange configuration of photos is supose to make up a very stylized 10...its our tenth anniversary!
All of the components are still in layers and I expect to be moving them around. It has to goto press tomorrow and I still don't have any sponsor's logos or copy?! Isn't being a designer great! |

hey dude! my icq is allways on, your gay ass mac version must not be geling with my sophisticated pc version.
as for the pic, i love the 10, why does it bleed off the page? and allways with the blue huh? mix it up some! actually, the pics are mostley blue and red, so why dont you try throwing some reds into the background? |

Roundeye-
-the 10 bleeds because I am stupid and lazy...I flatened it into the background, don't worry though I still have the layers saved somewhere...It is a big ass file so I havn't bothered to open it and make final changes, until I get some copy for our promotions department
-I don't know why everything I do is blue
-the party will be at Whiskey Saigon in Toronto
-the poster is 11 x 17 @ 300dpi
-there will also be a flyer
Maybe I am wrong but more designer should post here? What do you all think? |

I'm a designer!
Anyways..
I don't really like the image at all apart from the detail of the chrome. Sorry to be a bit of a bastard.
You have a good concept with the images making a 10, but to me the execution looks plain and lazy. It just looks a bit hurried, and lacking much thought.
A black background is generally very sterile, and draws a lot of attention due to its 'density'. Unless controlled successfully black has the tendecy to throw everything off. I know you have to place copy, and it is unfortunate that it has not been porvided to you yet. This is really hard for you, because it makes it almost impossible to create a successful image, in the hope that the text 'should' fit in. It also makes it hard for us to give definite advice.
Defintely do something about that bleed.
Those lines and the sparkles, I would probably scrap, because eveything else is so geometric, it would be nice to see a textured, or softer background. Look at the photographs for some inspiration there.
Roundeye said something abour putting some reds in the background. I agree. You have three red images on one side of the page and the rest of them are blue. Can you see how this looks unbalanced? It really draws a viewers attention off-balance, and with the bleed it makes it worse. So re-arrangement of the photographs to balance the colours... Or red in the background on the left to balance the red on the right, may do the trick.
One other suggestion I have is for you to examine the designs on the bottom of snowboards. Quite often they can inspire, and help you understand the image that the snowboarding market is projecting.
Hope that helps... |

I really liked the chrome effect as it was very eye-catching. I can understand some of the comments that have been made but I kinda like it as is (each to their own). I must ask, how was the chrome text done?

Ian Jones thanks for the constructive Crit...I do agree with much of what you are saying...I don't want to blame all of the problem on time but what you are seeing above was done in about 1 hour...I have not slaved over this piece at all...It is still very much a WIP...Until I know how much text and sponsor's logos I can't really place or size anything...I am mostly showing the components that I created to work with...
Thanks for suggesting balancing out the picture colours in the 10...I will work on that
Have you posted much design work here? I love to see it.
Matt Elder-
Thanks for the comments...I like making chrome! It is fun and pretty easy...I will work on a small tutorial..I'll post it soon |

I think it ended up ok. "Clients" ruin everything sometimes. I know - I have been one one. But it's too bad you have to basically post your client's wishes here. The art of business and the business of art can be tricky. |
