Here's some stuff I've had under construction these days:

This one was inspired from Hieronymus Bosch's triptych 'garden of earthly delights'

No general idea in this one, it all just came from my mind after looking at the painting. Weird.

This one is from a photo my friend took:

any comments? I still don't have any good idea how to do hair properly. Mostly the ending strands are hard and they always look a bit too bloky.

The first picture is "very" special and I like the mood it brings. The second picture is good but the heads seems a little bit off angle if you compare the chin with the rest of the head. Although the hair seems to be a lot of work, considering that it seems like you traced every hair .

Yeah, I did trace every hair, and it's a good tactic when you use different size brushes, but the ends of the strands are pretty much always the problem for me. Even with 1px brush they stand out too much.

As for the Bosch-thingy, my girlfriend saw it and afterwards saw some weird nightmares about it

The first one certainly is a weird idea but very well executed - the textures are great and the beak looks cool. As for the second one, the hair look really good although that must have taken a while to get done with that level of detail. Something does bother me about the face and I think it is a combination of the chin being at the wrong angle, something strange happening with the lips and the face being a bit dark (especially when the hair is so light)- particularly around the eye.

The first definately has an inherent Boschian oddity about it. The (limited) colours are especially effective.

The first pic is great. Don't change a thing. The unrelenting hair texture in the second one is maddening. It's fine if that's what you want, but I think it detracts from the beauty of the piece. Reducing the hair to value planes with some texture highlights will tie in the background more, and help bring out the texture and detail in the face. It may help you find a solution to the hair-ends as well.
