i was just wondering how many people here use wacom tablets for CGing drawings, and how does it compare to a mouse? ive been thinking of saving up for a wacom, but if it is not that hard with mouse i might not...im really strap for cash as i just had my comp. fixed and have started drawing again(and loving it).

almost forgot the pics....hehe

i like the style. but to create detail dont you add less detail to the far away areas? and the bottom 2 drawings, the gray background boxes seem to be out of place. aren't the background color suppose to emphisize a certain area in a drawing? like.. an important part of the character. pretty neat character designs too.

G'day goldnarmz, always great to see another aussie lurking in the shadows. With the wacom issue, if you are serious about this sort of stuff, it is an absolute neccessity. It does take a little bit to get use to but that's cause when you write, you are use to looking at the spot where the tip is. In this case, you are writing but looking at the screen. I got the smallest wacom and it suits me fine so don't think you have to get the grandest one available but make sure it is a wacom. It will cost about $200 for the smallest one.

As for the images, you certainly have a nice style going here. I just seems that you only have two types of lines - thick or thin, with the thin ones sometimes being overused. In the 2nd image, because you have used a thin line around the waist/upper body, it doesn't give the feelin' of mass like in the arms. Try to have some different thickness of lines and variations. For examples, look at some legs of female comic book characters. You will notice the line changes thickness as it goes along to give a really curvacous feel to it.

Otherwise I would also keep an eye on structure - particularly in the 2nd and 3rd images. In the 2nd image, characters left leg looks weird and almost like you are looking at the back of it. In the 3rd drawing, something weird is happening with the feet and I'm not sure what is going on with the characters lower right arm.

Keep at it and buy a wacom

goldnarmz - nice pics. I like the style, although I'm not sure I like the thick outline around everything. It would look nicer if you could vary the line width more inside the images.

Drawing with a mouse is like drawing with a brick. WACOM is a necessity in the long term.

I used to have a 4"x5", and it started to drive me crazy, and give me wrist cramps. After a while I couldn't draw on regular paper larger than 4x5. I like a larger tablet because I can move my arm instead of my wrist, and switch between traditional and digital media better.

thnks every1!

i guess i need alot of practice with my inking, im still praticing and experimenting with different different types of pens...those damn calligraphy pens takes time getting used

but yeah im trying for a comic linework look. As for those boxes at the backrounds they are a bad habit of mine...i guess i will try to stop when i get a wacom tablet.
