I've been wanting to post this pic up on the forum and get the forum comments before I finish and post it on my web site.
here's some detail.
I would really appriciate comments and critiques on my design and rendering.
I wanted to find a better method of do her hair, so it would look more solid. I also wanted to do something more interesting with the background, but couldn't think up anything. I'm open to suggestion if anyone has some.

Thanks to dr. bang and firefly for bringing this up to me. I wasn't aware that geocities didn't allow images to be linked remotely. I've taken dr. bangs suggestion and renamed the file ext. I think it works now.
To Fire Fly,
Do think it would be better if I softened up the coat shadows and made more folds around her waist. |

I'd try lighting the shade on the "V"ish outline thats on her butt. That should get rid of the plastic wrap look, maybe see what it looks like if you omit the "V" all together.
And the folds above the area I just mentioned are too dark, its really getting my attention when I look at the entire piece (2nd time around :P). Try making those shadows softer so they don't stand out. maybe redraw the fold so it doesn't look so scrunched up.
And if I didn't make sense say so I'll outline what I was saying when I get home |

is there a reason why her butt is so damn defined over 2 layers of clothes? the head looks a bit small, but stylishly cool. colors are neat, too. |

Previous suggestions are good.
I really like her face.
Her hand needs some seperation. Add some shadow underneath it.
Her shoe is a little short. There isn't enough room for her toes.
What's with all the wasted space? Crop the bg out entirely. Unless you really want it. |

The hand, I'm still working on. I'm definitely going to fix the tight spaces around her buttock. I'm really worried about the face, cause I tend to mess that up often. Or sometimes I fix it when it doesn't need to be fixed. Also I'd really like it if anyone had some advices on skin tones and methods for painting hair. As for the background I'm planning on adding that later, if I have time. I was original considering some street scene as the BG. But the colored background I have now is just to put the character in some open space, because this is still a work in progress. Thanks everyone for the comments so far.

Got your message in my post.
As far as skin tones are concerned...
You have I differant style then I use (and you should keep this style, just refine it some. )
Try laying down all your skin tones at one time with a hard brush. Use three or four (i.e. one with a pinkish tone, another with an orangish tone, etc. Don't be scared with your color choices, mix it up a bit.
Then add your basic highlights with a low oc soft airbrush set to screen. Then do the same for the shadows, only using multiply insted. After your basic lighting has been established. Take your brush and just keep sampling your colors on the pic and blending them into each other. I use a lot of bluring and smudging to work the colors together as well.
Hope this helped.
By the way....I love her face, great styling.
Take it easy,

Hey! Your pic is pretty cool! As it was said before, her head seems a bit small, and at the detailed pic of her face, it looks like her eyes are placed a little bit strange. Id try to put her right eye a bit more to the right, and increase the general size of both eyes.
But those are the only crits I have. I really like that pic. |
