i like these pics, the athmo's kinda fine.
what kind of look did you want to achieve? if you tried to have it look realistic, you prolly failed but as these seem to be partially distorted and abstracted in a (kinda) picasso-like way, they are good.
at least i like them.
i especcially like the background in the first pic (the shading could have been a little stronger imho in the foreground) and the flatness of the face in the second pic. |

Hey Calling,
Try looking at some of the works by
Edvard Munch,
Try looking into, Goya's earlyier intaglio (printmaking) images as well.
A good place to start is
artcyclopeida
As for a crit,
your images are becoming too flat, there isn't much depth or form to the shapes you're using. Try thinking more about the shapes and how they are placed in space instead of layering them with all the speckles and overlay.
The blackoutline in your top image is good and bad, good in the fact that it works with the subject of the image, bad in that it gives you the false feeling of contrast(if that makes since?) The black out line is like a broken contianer, it's making your image tight and it envelopes your subject. That works for your image. But if you remove it, you lose the shape and what's happening.
ok..second image
This image reminds me of Frances Bacon's image. If I didn't know better, I would have thought he did this..but's a little...dead.
anyway.
The use of dark and light work well in this iamge, And the head taking the shape of a questionmark is a very nice touch. Again, i'm seeing these dark lines (neck area and hands). By doing this your losing some sence of volume in the hands and the black lines act like a container that (for lack of a better word) strangles your image.
I'm not saying stop using the black outline, just think before you put it down, instead of startng with a black outline try adding the color first and then go back in and add the black in areas that need the contrast(from light to dark) or areas that you want tention brought to.
I've rambled on long enough, hope this helps you.
Very good stuff, keep at it and look at those artists, you'll see what I'm talking about

To be honest I don't really like the first one. I can't quite put my finger on it. Too late/early. I love the second though. Nice work. |

you can find gore references at rotten.com.
------------------WARNING------------------
its a gross site - but its got photos of heads not too dissimilar to the one in the first image. I hate the site myself but you may need to reference it. |
