Hello there,
in the light of all that's been going on in Sijun lately, I'd like to point out that it's better if you post sketches in the Works in Progress forum.
This forum is for finished work - and I want you to ask yourself if this picture feels finished. Would you take sketches to an art gallery and hang them on the wall there?
You haven't even bothered to remove the tests of the brushes at the top of the image. I really like the picture - it's nice =) A well rendered hand and nice lines. I can't see how it belongs in this forum, though, so I'm moving it. |

Sorry Enayla, but I have to disagree with you. This is a finished work. It is just a hand study, and as such is done. I do not plan to work on it any more, and I believe it has value on its own. If I were to hang it in I gallery I would mat out the test marks, but I left them in so others could see the process. It's a sketch, sure, but so was most of Da Vinci's work. I'm no DaVinci, but I do know the difference between doodling and meritous art.
There's plenty of things I don't consider good finished art that shows up in finished art, such as pictures copied from photographs. I've even seen those show up on (gasp) Lumental.
Anyway, the hand is a nice little piece that someone could frame and hang on their wall, and I feel I had originally posted it in the correct place.

hello,
I'll be brave enough to say that I agree with Pigeon. I personally think sketches are as finished as fully rendered tight photoreal pictures. I like both of them as long as they are good in quality.
And you see(or I see at least) sketches hung in galleries(and Museums like Metropolitan in NY or Prado in Madrid) everywhere. When first Impressionist Show was held, all the Academic painters back then thought they were bad sketches....
However, I'm fairly new here, so maybe I'm not understanding the actual rules of this forum. I have posted life paintings and landscape sketches in the finished-work forum before too....
So I guess it's up to who's in charge...? http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/eek.gif |

Nice study Pigeon... a finished work indeed!
Enayla: I suggest that you do not take on to you to decide what is finished work and what is not! If you do then I suggest that you move/remove the next concept/rough picture by craig/feng/francis.... as these are in the same way as this not finished works. (Not that it's my opinion)
This is just discrimination! period.

When he said 50% I'm pretty sure he meant that he is showing it to us at 50% of it's original size. |

i do think that whether a work is finished or not is within the eye of its creator and we must rely on him/her for that decision unless he/she wants crits to be able to better the work- it's that whole freedom of art thing, but geez Ko, chill. noone is discriminating anyone, that's just plain silly. |

Finished work eh? Theres a such thing? No matter what in an artists head there will always be something *more* he/she can do to a work of theirs, but its up to them to decide when its time to stop working on that project and move on. Only 1 opinion truely matters to an artists and its their own, because if they arent happy with it then they wont see the satisfaction in their art and when people TELL them their art isnt finished it does nothing more than run their idea into the ground, all artists have their own art form and that should be respected, no one artist is alike, even trying to copy a work of art the artists picture will still differ from the original because the artist has added his or her own special techniques to it.
A study is a study, its not ment to hang up in an art gallery, but i guess it could, but if someone is doing this for personal benift then let them, dont bother telling them if their work is finished or not because you dont know that, only they do, and give some people credit on here, i do understand that alot of really unfinished work is posted in the finished gallery but maybe its because its done to them.
Just let them decide, you moderate what people say and the topics we discuss not how finished an art piece looks to YOU. These forums are here for people to post their art where they want to. So let them.
