This is a obviously unfinished painting - he will have a knee, I swear. In the meantime, though, please critique it... I will continue to update as I work, and will happily provide details if anyone wants to see them. |

Nice rendering so far... my big crit though is that the composition seems to have been pushed too far to the left. The way his wing is cropped kind of bugs me
Otherwise it's looking really nice, it makes me wonder what he's doing. |

I like this piece, but the lighting confuses me. His hair, shoulder and left wing all seem to indicate a light source from above and between the viewer and the angel. But the top of the right wing seems not to be catching any of this light. Based on this lighting, it might also rake across his arm a little, given that it's falloff seems to extend down to his leg.
Rather than type more, I'll just paint it. It's easier to figure out that I'm trying to say.
Keep up the excellent work.

Jezebel - there actually will be another figure in the bottom right corner, which (I hope) will fix the compositional problem. Once that section's painted in, you'll know what he's doing, too.
Pat - thanks for the help; I'll go rework the piece now to better reflect the light source. I actually started this as an exercise in lighting, so I especially appreciate your critique. ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Okay - I reworked the lighting, worked on his legs, and finished detailing the feathers. I still have to get in figure #2 in the corner, though...

just one thing...
the wing shape looks a bit off, and i particularly think that the under-win coverts (the short feathers on the underside of the wing) need to be longer toward the end of the wing. |

Jo, this is like sweet.
Great composition - at first the eye goes to the round glass window, then slides along the winged guy down to the sitting figure.
One thing though - what is he doing with the hands? It's a bit confusing (so far, at least). |

Nice work! Kinda reminds me of that oldschool amiga-demo-artworks.
Pretty neat! |
