Sorry about the size of the pictures.
I've been playing around with metanurbs in Lightwave (a little like sub-divs in Maya, if I've understood things correctly) and I think I've finally found a good way of doing things. I'm still learning though, and comments are more than welcome.
This is the first model. It took me about two weeks and it's very "dirty", but I learned a lot. This is just polygons that I subdivided twice, no metanurbs yet.
This is my second try, a self-portrait. About one week on and off. Also just subdivided polygons.
This is my first metanurb test, and it took me about 8 hours.
This is another really fast one, about 4-5 hours. Not as good as the previous one, but good practice nonetheless.
And of course the monkey!
c&c's welcome!
edit: monkey didn't show

At last! someone whos doing decent heads!
Most of those who post 3dheads dont really know what a head looks like, (or Im just not checking often enough) but this looks like it should!! Good Work!! |

I like you heads, very realistic. I only had one try and it turn out kinda cartoony.
I think i should use pictures instead of drawings for reference. |

Amazing modelling man. Know of any good Tut sites for Lightwave? Got it a while ago just for something new to screw with, but even the interface is way beyond me at this point. |

LOL, love the monkey.
Anyway, great looking faces. Quick question, are they meant just as exercises or will you use them in animation. Reason I am asking is that all of them except the first one have their mouths closed and the first one has no teeth or gums. Just thinking how they would work once they are rigged for animation.
Any chance you could post the wireframe version? |

Dr. bang:
I've been doing 3D for about 3 years, but until now I've only worked with lowpolygon modelling. It's quite different, since most of the detail in a lowpolygon object is in the texture, whereas you need to model all the details in "high-poly".
Shadow:
Thanks, it's just practice.
Benregimbal, Nicodemus, Sweedberg:
Thanks a lot!
Raykast:
It's a good start! The best way to do it is to really make sure what it is you're going to model. Spend some time (days even) collecting reference material and drawing before you even begin modelling.
Fallen:
I know some tutorials, but I don't think they help. What works for someone else might not be good at all for you. More often than not they do more damage than good. Get a lot of reference-material and try different techniques yourself. As for learning Lightwave, it's a lot easier to learn than MAX or Maya and it's by far the best polygon-modeller. (Please, no flaming )
Choga:
Thanks. I have no idea who Tibor Madjar is, got any pictures? When I was doing some early test renders of my selfportrait, people said it looked like Fred Durst. (Old Picture)
SimplyDevine:
Thanks, sure I'll post more later.
Icannon:
Well... what can I say, thanks.
Vgta:
Thanks, the monkey is my own favourite, since I'm a 3D-guy and it's something new for me.
They're just practice and I won't have time to animate them anyway, so I just did it the way I thought would look the best. It would, however be quite easy to make them "animation friendly" since I worked in a way that would make it deform in a good way, just swing the jaw open and add teeth.
The first one actually do have teeth and gums, but the picture is a little too dark. Here's a lowpoly version of the inside of the mouth:
