Hi all.
I posted some early sketches for this bookcover some time ago. I've redesigned the main character and made another composition. The lines in the bottom of the picture is supposed to be a wild river...[ideas or references regarding this river would be higly appreciated!]and a layer of heavy rain will be added in the end.
I had some troubles with the nightskies, I think they turned out okay now, but ideas to improve them would be nice...
I've only really coloured the skies...but there's only two days till deadline, so I thougt I'd just post it now, to get feedback as fast as possible ;-)
Looking forward to here crits and comments.
Thanks.
eBoy.

i really love the feeling
the skie is great imho, you did a really good job on it.
as for the composition i really like it, very dramatic.
maybe you could add in the wild river some tree parts, like a branch or something, that has been torn apart by the storm and is taken away by the wild river ...
i think it will be a really amazing cover |

Very nice, the sky looks really good, as does the composition.
Kind of hard to crit the whole piece without seeing the main figure rendered.
Is the girl some type of forest faerie or is she human? Just trying to think of some colors for her.
If I can think of anything helpful to write I will do so, so far though it's looking great, keep us posted. |

Hi again and thanks a lot!
Mime: I've now added some trees on the other shore...mybe i should put some more debris in the river?!
Vgta: She's a troll/faerie girl yes :-)
I've now coloured her roughly...plz tell me what you think.
Any comments on the river?
Thanks again...this is all very helpful :-)

Very nice..river "might" need a tiny bit more high light from moon hitting it adding more movement..hard to say without seeing it with the rain..cause the rain layer might finish it off to perfection.. .

Got damn... thats good. I really like the emotions the picture is giving me.... very beutifull. The tree behind the girl really gives the picture a strong/hard look, and makes the girl look little and weak, a cute little thing that needs comfort...
nice picture btw

You might want to tame down the orange in her hair - moonlight tends to grey out colors. You might also want to add a slightly warmer glow to the moon, if you want it to be more prominent... if not, leave it the way it is, it'll look good either way. Nice composition, and I'm loving the trees... |

excellent.
Gryphon mentioned how the moon desaturates colors a bit, so maybe you can follow that. I know the girl is just beginning to get colored. There seems to be a difference in color between her hands and the rest of her body, and I can't tell which way the river is going. My suggestion, have it go away from the viewer and add some splash effects to the rock you've got there.
Great looking piece. |

WHOAH! > getting WAY too tired now...think I'd better stop before I'll ruin it all ;-)
so this is how far I came tonight...one day to go :~.
(sorry if this page is getting heavy)
kaylon > thanks...I gave the river a bit more
and removed the stone which I think gave it a better flow... and here's some rain for ya!
Tyven > thanks .-) she needs your comfort!
Gryphon > Good point! I think she's more a part of the picture now...don't know if she's too dark though! ...I'll keep the moon as it is for now...too tired ;-)
Nova > can't really say...untill it is released I guess...but thanx!
Vgta > Yes...the desaturation helped :-) the thing about the hands was that I was trying to make her look as she was freezing...but i've toned it down a bit! ...the river...In my head it goes IN the picture...and then turnes sharp left...is that visible?
ok...that's all for now...gotta sleep...but thank you all again...and I'll post some more tomorow.

Heya Emil. Working late again, eh?
Looking very nice so far. This will be a really atmospheric cover I'm sure. Only thing I see is that the moon needs to be brighter. You have hightlights on the clouds and on the rock in the foreground that are brighter than the moon itself... Which is kinda wierd. Also there's abit of greyiness sorrounding the moon...? But the cover is indeed coming along nicely! Love the texture in the three and on the rocks!

I love it!
I agree with the previous speakers...
And an added quick note, hope I'm in time for the deadline - I think you should make the raindrops that pass right across the moon (and it's immediate surroundings) full white from the backlighting.
(PS - now the green looks a bit strong.) |

WOW! That is awesome. The colours are so vibrant and well placed. I really like the texture work you've done as well. The pose of the girl is absolutely great. Everything is so unique. I really, REALLY like this a lot. If could come up with ONE thing constructive to say, it would be that maybe the roots underneath the rock could be a bit more developed? Just a suggestion. I think it kicks ass as is. |

Oh wow... I love this so much! *dances with joy*
I think Steven's suggestion is a good one. Another thing I would add is some little splashies from the rain drops hitting in various places. Right now it sort of has that "layer" look, like it's just a layer of rain on top of everything else... it doesn't really interact with the objects in the environment.
Hmm.. nopes... no other crits from me. It'll make a lovely cover The tree looks amazing. |

Wow, I have really enjoyed watching this develop! I love the textures you've created and the overall composition is full of emotion, as others have said. If I had any critique, it would be that the lighting around the girl's mouth looks artificial, like she has clown makeup or just ate a pasty donut. |

Hey this is turning out great, I think everyone has already said the little details that can be added to make the picture stand out even more. Great work man, thanks for letting us help. |
