Sijun's tute on here is pretty good...cant think of any others offhand (dont get out much lol)
If your stuck for ideas for textures, try thinking of it as texture = smaller details.
Its like a brick, has millions of small bumps, and crevices and notches, all of which cast their own shadow etc on the surface.
Texturing is just capturing those details, and its up to the artists how much / little he shows (because extreme detail isnt always complementary to a pick...a few notches can be miles more effective than sketching every single lump and bump on a surface etc).
Rust etc can almost be in a different category too, because if something rusts enough you get multiple layers and surfaces as it flakes off the original surface etc....and each of those pieces will have its own textures etc.

eh.. not what i was looking for... i was looking for maybe a link to a site with pictures of metal... rust... plastic... (its not everyday that I see chrome.. rust.. and such..).. all I want to know is where I can find these pictures.. maybe tutorials on how to create a rust look.. chrome.. whatver...
sorry but I thought i'd be getting a link to somewhere, but instead you tell me something I allready know.
and the Sijun tutorial doesnt explain how to go about adding certain textures.. its just a basic step by step sequence thats used to make the pictures.. |

Oh, yeah cool no problem =)
tried the erm...iirc
lycos has an image specific search option,
as well as file share programs like kazaa etc that you could use to scour for specific references to those surfaces..
Also see if you could turf up an old copy of encarta or britannica as a reference ( i found a set of encyclopedias at an op shop that have a heap of good reference pics etc..)
ps, sorry about explaining stuff u already knew lol, had no idea u were after refs for this
pps, for rust, chrome etc....industrial chemistry is a useful keyword to keep in mind, theres alot of stuff online detailing chrome surfacing, rust, and other surface buildups (lime damage etc) that would have good pics...
