hey siftland, I like the feel to these, I like your linework, I like to see the confidant, solid lines, and good crosshatching. Lot's of good technique. I like the line heaviness on the shadow sides of everything, good form. I'm impressed. The only thing that i didnt' understand is the pose of the first guy. He's all off. It's as though his shoulders are square with us, and his head and neck are kind of adjar. It's something that I frequently have problems with too. How the head fits on the neck. I'm not sure if you're going for a suprised/shocked look, if so, it's close.
I think it's quite solid drawing though.
one last thing is the hand on the last man, I think that the little finger should be a little littler. It seems that it's begger that the pointer finger, which doesn't seem as bent as it should be.
good work man, hope to help.

davi: Thanks....The idea for that came from nowhere, I think I might expand on it somewhat.
smothered: Wow...All the compliments! It's reassuring to hear. Thank you!
I have never been much of a stickler for anatomy, and people typically have no trouble spotting a couple problems in the stuff I do. All I can say about the first guy is that I was sorta trying to make him appear awkward, like he is uncomfortable. When I finished him I did however notice that one arm is too long and his shoulders are too far out from his body...plus he is a bit tilted from the scan. I think I could have helped out in figuring out his pose/emotion by giving a better sense of place, a prop or two...I guess I was in "pin-up" mode, something I am very very rarely in.
Getting the head to fit properly on the neck has been a long-standing problem I have. I've been told all my characters look like they have broken necks. So it's something I've been working on...hopefully I'll get better.
yikes....didn't notice the problems with the guy's hand.
Thanks again! |
