[edit]Make sure to see the last image I posted in this thread... She's really done now... in fact I am deep into coloring her, at this stage, and will post a new thread with color work soon. Thanks![/edit]
This is a layout for the second painting in a series. I'd love to hear any comments/suggestions. I'll be covering up her body *sigh* with lots of gadgets and leather, along with painting like mad, so comments like, "I don't like her knee," or - "Her toes look funny," are moot, as they'll be replaced with an assortment of skulls and vaccuum hoses. Just a time saver 'heads-up.'
In case you were wondering, here is a tiny shot of the first (yet unfinished) painting in the series:
Thanks!

Hahah! "Blowing the root thing?" Oh, man, what a crack-up... ok, a quick explanation, and I have to get back to working...
She's a sensate, which means she lives for tasting, touching, seeing, hearing, etc... all of the things of the universe... she's a member of a faction that truly believes we are all here to enjoy the beauty of life and creation, and should explore our sensations to their fullest... even at great risk to their own lives.
I show this by having her on top of a rock taht was apparently hard to climb, to taste of the curious nectar a strange, thorny plant produces in a hard-to-reach spot. This will be better illustrated, once the colring is in place, and you can see that the plant supplies a slimy-sticky substance... she figures, 'it's well protected, so it must be wonderful!' and can't resist but to climb up and get a big sloppy mouthful of the stuff.
Here she is caught savouring the unique flavor of the thing... making a sticky mess, in the process... which reveals her passion for such things.
Hahah..! so, she's not really blowing the root-thing... although that probably sounds interesting to her, too. |

I love your work, though! Keep it coming. |

Shaded.. thank you so much for commenting.. I swear people are avoiding this post... I love to hear comments, however brief... and I've been checking back all day. I'm a big baby, though.
Awesome comment... I'm all swollen with ... well, pride I guess, or I'd better go see the doctor, if it's a possible infection.
I'll post the new & improved when I get there... I'm working on other sketches for the remaining pieces in this series, so it may be a while... unless I need a break, and can't help but finish her. |

Looks great, Um should her jaw be so far out, it's cool exaggerated and stuff but she'd hurt herself having it out that far |

She's sucking on her fingers, so her lips are out further. Her chin could use a little downsizing, though... thanks, that helped. I appreciate you catching that! |

Looking good, I have hope that you will keep this a dark piece, like that of faries in the forest. Maybe some God-light. |

Oh, it will be dark. Most definitely so!
Muahahahahahaha!
I'm keeping with the dark/sorta backlit theme that I incorporated with the other piece. I'm glad you think this a good move! |

Hey looking pretty neat.
A few crit, I know it's still very early in development but here it goes.
Her right arm seems a little off, maybe it blends to much with her body. It looks more like she was smoking something. How far can you go with the sexual inuendo? Reason I am asking is cause it might be cool to depict her with her face looking up tounge sticking out and the root dripping the nectar into her mouth and all over her body.
Also to keep us in the scene she could be looking at us still, more like a side glance as she is drinking the nectar.
Well hope that helped somewhat. |

Great. Paint it. Please. This series of paintings should look amazing if the first is anything to go by. The drawing you posted looks fine to me, it should make a good 'ground'. Keep at it. |

Thanks, guys! I'm definitely taking everything into serious consideration. The art director suggested that I move the thorny patch closer to her arm, as there is no point of interest below it... and the image can be cropped a bit. He also said to keep the background simple, along the same lines as my first painting.
I think I'm gonna toss out the steampunk gear on her knee, and keep with the costuming theme she's got going from her crotch up. Vgta: I'm already pushing the envelope with eroticism, and the A.D. asked me to back off on that when I color it... I'm supposed to make sure and not draw attention to her crotch... even though he liked the strappings. He also said that although she doesn't need the steam punk stuff on her leg, he's not against it. Any input there?
I'm going to have some alien feathers attached to her hair (the long lines indicating the positions), and I'd love to hear any other ideas you folks may have.
Here's the image as it stands today... I'm still struggling to work on this, and finish a big deadline at work.

Slurp...she's lovin' that sticky goo
I would leave the knee pad thingy-ma-jigger because with the added feathers, she may have too much resemblence to a Native American, which would be distracting. With some techy stuff, she would be a bit more sophisticated (IMO) Awesome Mike. |

Akolyte! Thanks! Duly noted, and I will now probably keep the thing-a-ma-jigger's. As you pointed out, they balance her feel.
(What does IMO mean?) |

I was looking through your sketchbooks and illustrations and thinking, "Wow, this guy is really good." Then I got a little farther along and found the "from life" section and said, "What? The rest of this stuff wasn't from life?" I thought you'd been hangin' out with fairies and ogres. Great work Mike!
As for this piece, if it's going in the same direction as your previous devil piece, then I can't wait for the final. Put me on your mailing list. |

Hey looking even better. I kinda liked her naked though
Seriously, I do like the steam punk look, it reminds me of shadowrun a little bit; but yeah I can see pushing the envelope on this one.
Have you considered on face paints or Tattoos? That might look cool on her. Something to indentify to which clan she belongs to.
Man I can't wait to keep on seeing the progress on this piece. |

yea mike i know what you mean
see after all this time...i was trying to figure it out....but i can now confirm my
ex-girlfriend was a sensate! lol
on a slightly more serious note your work once again amazes me beyond belief...which make me push harder to get somewhere near that level.....
hopefully i can find another sensate....they dont seem to be TOO rare of creatures |

DarkStalker1, you absolute stud... what a cool thing... I really appreciate the bump.
My update is coming, but I'm behind thanks to things like this:
I'm working like mad on textures and geometry for a snowboarding game our company is developing. Hell... here I am, after midnight, and still at work (although I'm taking a break, and tooling around in sijun).
[edit]Still... fear not. I'll be working on her tomorrow, and over the weekend. I should have something new to show, easily, by this time tomorrow... probably hours earlier. [/edit]
Everyone else... thanks so much for your comments. Levi... haha.. man, you crack me up. I love ya, brutha.

Hahah.. Patrick.. ok... maybe I'll remove that mushroom... just longing to have something there... I may go with the suggestion of making it a tattoo of her alignment.
I really dig the colored stick w/bead idea... hell, I believe I'll just do that! Thanks, man! |

Oky doke... ...here she is, in her 'final' layout. If you have any remarks about what should be altered, do say so... as I'll be painting her over the weekend. She's the result of many bits of input...
I appreciate it all, everyone.
