hey man, it's looking alright so far. I feel for you with the mouse, It's just not right. I think that the trick to getting a wet look on the hair would be really sharp highlights. it's what we crazy 3d people call anisotropic. essentially, there are tons of little highlights, all coming together to create a shiny, scratchy surface. I'm not sure how to paint it yet, as i haven't tried, but that's the idea.
Other than that, I'd say add a little contrast into your shadows, and it'd look a lot better with some sort of bg behind the girl I think. Something to make her stand out from the white. Pure white bg's make it seem so unfinished.
keep up though, it'll only get better.

im saving the angel for a little while longer because im supposed to get a tablet soon-- hopefully the next time i post it, it will be much better. i was going to put some background in, but im not sure what to do. in order to make the whole "wet" thing a little clearer, i was going to have her sitting in a bryce puddle, or a difference cloud pool. well, here's something else i whipped up a long time ago, actually, just thought id see what some people think... not very complex, but i liked the way it turned out...

I like that last one. The curve on the blade isn't the same throughout, and the lensflare :/ but overall it's a very nice painting job. If you wanted to work on it, make the curvature of the blade more even throughout, and give that pool of blood some texture and you're set (ditch the lensflare too ) |

yeah, i cant do much to that picture anymore, i dont have the photoshop file. but the curvature of the blade... katanas are japanese pre-meiji-era swords and they really are shaped like that. i spent a lot of time working on the curvature (redid it about five or six times). the shadowing of the blade is a little off, maybe ill just use the jpeg file and fix that sometime, thanks for the critique though! ^_^ |
