hi all!!

this is my first post, and i hope not the last! - congratulatios to all of you for your work

what do you think of this render? i did it in april, and many people think there's something that doesn't work with it.. (forget the hair.. )

its done with Lightwave6 and ranked 1st in a 3d competition..
so, despite the hair and that strange face, what would you add/correct?

see you!

very cool... i think for teh face to look better, you need to narrow the jaw a bit, and make the nose a little smaller... sexy girls have big eyes, small noses and big lips- well usualy at least
well anyways, great render. i don't know the first thing about lightwave, so i can't really help ya with that... maybe you could soften up the reflections on the metal? make it look a little weathered or somethin? i dunno.

oh yes hair would be cool too :_

That looks really good. There are a few things about it that seem a little weird or that I don't like though. I'm not really fond of the background. The aliasing on the white panels in the background are really noticable. The other thing that jumps out at me is the socket in her near arm where her bicep connects with the shoulder, it looks really angular like the poly count is way to low or the patch setting is too low if it's a subpatch (sub-d) object. There are alot of nice touches in there though. I like the bounced green light on her armor and face. And also, hair would be cool.

i think he might want the jaw the way it is. it looks like shes supposed to be a soldier or something. it makes her look tougher.

ot much to add. just i agree that the background i in need of some definite modification to give the pic some more character. I would also love to see the armor a bit more worn and maybe not as plasticy. love the facts he isnt perfect in the face. Maybe a mole or tattoo or something??

Nice image.
How about some highlight in the eyes and on the lips, since everything else is shining. Maybe more detail to the armour. Or a window in the background with a planet outside

i think "whats wrong with it" is not any part of person.. but the background... it look SUPER 2d and she is in a 3d environment.. you know? no depth to the background.. other wise.. very very nice!!!

Good model man!
Ok, here I go again, can't seem to stop messing with other people's pics, sorry, but it makes it easier to show what I mean...

I think the composition really suffers from having us stare into two bright lights that go all across the frame, both blinding us (just a psychological effect, but still), and pulling our eyes off the image to the right, so I made the right one a bit smaller.
The lighting on her head isn't quite real, I tried to indicate what I mean by that. (Yes I know skin is THE hardest substance to render properly in the computer.)
Her face is a bit too narrow for her features, either thin the eyes and nose (like I did here) or widen the cheekbones/forehead a bit. That would also help the chin, which someone commented was too wide now.
I made her left eye's outer corner a little darker (most likely both outer corners can use this, I've noticed this is a problem in most people's cg faces), and the eyes' centers a little brighter.
The lights should have glow, also the reflections, this would also help the aliasing comment earlier.

hi all!!

thanks for the replys, its very nice from you, and sorry for the delay. here are some replys:

Background and Armor
yes, they're preety simple, specially the background (which is a kind of elevator XD), but the fact is that i've done them in just 2 days because the deadline of the contest, so i prefered to focus more intensively on the lightning, texturing and general setups, than in the complexity of the wireframe...

geoman2k
you're right, she doesn't have many femenine features, i should retouch it.. (or maybe get a girlfriend and copy her? XDD)
by the way, why does she need to look preety and femenine? this could be a 'real' face, i think..

MeatyCheesyBoy
that panels' aliasing is embarrasing and nasty, i must agree... :P

melted petal
yeah! great ideas the mole and tatoos... if I retouch her, i promise to put them... cool...

Dr.ZuLu
i agree with the fact that the face is very 'matte'. Actually, Specular maps are done, and in other perspectives and lightning eyes, skin and lips look really cool, but in this setup it isn't noticeable..

MKYBOY
hi man!! XDDD
see you there, i have to write lwusersgallery about my background and profile.. some from the mailing list ask me for it, but i didn't reply him yet...

s. stahlberg
thanks so much for your post and time, steve
i agree with the wrong composition, the white panels literally KILL the image... There's some thing i didn't mentioned yet, and it's that this is my first Radiosity Rendered image, and i think that (apart from the lack of time) i concentrated too much in the technical features and less from the artistical ones... a big general problem i thought i had already surpassed..

About the quality of the shades and lightning, i must to say that It's incredible how Radiosity parameters affect the result!!! the next time i prefer to concentrate in texture, lightning and composition and use normal rendering...

Your correction to the image is preety great, specially killing the right white panel and adding the white reflections on the sides of the face (they're a must!). She's more beautyful, too

About the glow: I FORGOT IT!! just after render the image, i realised i'd forgoten the glow, and i didn't have time to render it again (it's a 4-5 hours render in my machine..)

Another topic: How difficult is to make a 3d character to stare directly to the camera!! even in your retouch, it seems that she doesn't look directly..

WOW, how many silly excuses.. :P

Thanks to all, again

I add a textures test i did for the head (altough it's not the very very final version).

how difficult is to texture a face, isn't it?
(looking this image again, i think that lightening and adding skin features (moles, scars, etc.) would improve it a lot.. or maybe i'm influenced by finalFantasy characters? (???)

wow.. it's incredible how much a person can write when he should be studing instead...

see you!

yep, i've also notice that.. but that specular shine in the corner of the mouth also emphasizes the mistake, so I should correct the specular map, too.
thanks

Reminds me of the Borg Queen from Voyager, and her nostrils look too smooth around the edges, maybe sink them a little?

Her mouth is a little pinched at the corners, maybe you should sink them in a bit ( the corners that is )
