Gonna be posting some of my anatomy attempts here. The individual pics aren't necessary work in progress, as much as the whole process. headsheadsheads

cool man.. the painting itself is nice. The face seems a bit too round though.. and the eyes aren't too symetrical.. but it looks cool. It reminds me of the ape dudes in H.G. Wells' "Time Machine"
keep on it |

her left half of the head seems to be more rounded and overall larger than the right. Overall it's pretty good, but she reminds me of that woman ogre from shrek |

Gecko and burn0ut ....
The pictures were made in Photoshop or in Painter ?
Can you share some tips step by step? What tools you use, brushes and the pressure set on it?
Do you use one layer or more ? One layer(top) with the drawing and another for paint ?
Thanks...

It’s all made in PhotoShop…
Can you share the R: G: B: values that you use for Shadows, midtones and highlights?
With tools you use normaly use to do that? Only paintbrush and airbrush ?
Thanks for your help

burnout! you made her white! :)
Thanks for the paintover, i agree about the symmetry with you guys, although i don't see a reason why a person's head couldn't be so round. Your skin color looks really nice, and the construction works much better.
My aim here is to learn to draw different kinds of faces, not necessarily a perfect one :P
ilmari, i need to get it printed out, can't bother to read it from the screen. Thanks for the reminder :)
rbfigueira, check my homepage -> "how to"
I made mine in photoshop, paintbrush at 100% opacity. wacom tablet. Everytime i feel like theres something on the pic I want to keep, i make another layer on top and continue painting on that. I dont see how the rgb values will help you. but if you want them, just grab the pic to an image editing program and figure out the colors from there. I just hand pick my colors anyway, there's no secret theory behind it.
thanks for the heads palladia. I like the head on the left, even though his ear should be farther back.
I did a lot heads yesterday, here's one of the more successful attempts :)

Hey, Gecko, I really like what you are doing. Believe it or not lack of symetry is really a good thing, and I think more of us should train our eyes to recognize just how twisted most of our faces really are. Once we see and can capture that, our work will come across with a whole new level of believability. I would conclude by saying that the only reason your painting seems odd is because of the contrast of features to the background. If you were to finish it and soften those features a little, then I think it will come across as very real. Good work. |

To burn0ut and for all you guys
Your “Head/Face” painting are very good man !!
Can you share you pallet ? I think that all guys here paint only with a few colors (5/6 colors). Can anyone share his pallet or the RGB values ?
I am trying to make some stuff like that, but I am in beginning and I think if you share your pallet of colors that you use to do that paint…Will be helping me a lot !!
With which colors you guys work ?
Thanks for all help,
Ricardo Figueira

if you want a pallette just copy and paste the image from your browser to your editor (photoshop, psp etc). just find one you like and use the eye dropper (color capture) tool and grab the colors you want. |

[edit]I'm just 2 cool 4 grammur or sentences that make any sense :/
My two cents would be that you must first know the rules before you can (knowingly) break them. I'd start with plain idealized anatomy (Loomis/Hogarth/anatomy book/whatever) and then move on to ugly mugs/whatnot. The underlying bone structure and musculature is very much the same between different people (elephant man excluded).
Umm, I don't know if I make much sense or is my opinion needed. Oh well, back to drawing things.
