Very early stage. I'm having alot of trouble with the composition here. I want the soldier to look at some creature that it is hidden from the viewer outside the picture, so only its shadow is showing on the wall behind the persons. Also maybe a set of claws penetrating the air ventilator in the right corner. Do you think I should show the persons in full figur?
tnx. |

the woman looks like she is looking at a big monster or something, but the man looks like he is looking at the viewer, you should pull his head to be looking up a bit more, enough so that he is looking out, over the picture, but not so much that he seems to be looking like he is staring at a skyscraper. I suggest trying this with a mirror, or if you have, a digital camera. A mirror may be hard, because you want your head to be looking up, which would thus be in a position where you can't actually SEE the mirror, even though your image is reflected. |

Thanks for your comment. I don't really know if its bad that he's looking at the viewer?
Might try it out tomorrow. It's 5 in the morning and I got to sleep pretty soon

Well, if he's looking at the viewer, it kind of brings the viewer into the picture, which hurts the suspension of disbelief. That's why you almost never see actors in movies looking directly at the camera. The viewer isn't SUPPOSED to be there. (The only exception to this rule that I can think of is when the actor is specifically addressing the audience, like in Ferris Bueler's Day Off. Or in the news. Stuff like that.)
Eye contact aside, you've got a cool picture going on. The marine's pose looks maybe a little too relaxed for the situation he's in, but not too bad. |

The female is coming along pretty well, the head looks really good, but i notice that the arm he has around her is not right.. it looks like its upside down.
His thumb should be showing up top.. but there isn't a thumb which makes the hand not look accurate.
What was brought up before, you should make him looking up with her, when he is looking at the viewer it kinda messes up the whole flow the scene and, questions the importance of what the girl is lookin at.
Its a good idea, and its coming along well, just gotta fix a few things.. |

Well the picture makes me think to a movie like aliens and I haven't seen any marines in that movie that were looking really relaxt to a monster that is crawling to him... What I'm trying to say is, try to make him look a bit angry or something in that way.
something like this: (sorry for editing it but at least you know now what I'm talking about )
The girl is fine, nothing to notice about that

Ok. Thanks for taking the time to comment my picture. I'll change the angle of the head and try to make him look more desperate. I think it will be quite hard as I'm not very good at doing figure drawing, but a challenge it is! |
