This is a body study for a illustration I am abou tot start. Since I won't be able to take reference shots for a couple days I'm just trying to sketch up a place holder.
The figure should appear to be standing at attention, not completly rigid or military, just not slouching.
The other thing I'm not sure about is her right arm, anyone think you should be able to see it from this position?
thanks for the help

If she's holding both her arms in the same position, then yes, you should be able to see between half to her entire right arm (except behind the right breast). She'd have to be purposely keeping her right arm behind her for us not to see it from this angle. |

I agree with Sacrelicious on that one. even if irl a "member" can sometimes disappear from a 3D viewing, in 2D it always gives the impression it was done on purpose.. Be it for action or because the artist didn't know how to deal with it :p (feet are the best example in this case, not the ones on your drawing, I'm speaking global) So, unless she keeps her arm really straight (and you'll have eventually to explain it, using a prop or else) there is no way you couldn't see part of her right arm...
That is, if you're looking for realism of course.. I hope you'll post the pict in progress :) |

Yeah, make part of the right arm visible. Viewers will want to see part of it, just to reinforce their idea of what looks right. I've drawn from life drawings, not drawn a limb that was hidden, and I've had comments like, "what, the kid only has one arm?". Of course, he did only have one arm, but that's another story...hyuck hyuck.
I know you said you're only roughing in the general pose, but the butt cheek and the arch in the back seem too abrupt and high to me. |

thanks for the comments guys.
I was havng hte same feeling as what you ar telling me. Will redraw the sketch of her and put into the background so everyone can kind of see the entire image. I know it can be diffucult to crit without an idea of the scene.
And yes SoMK I will post in progress pics. But I may start a new thread with a different title. |
