A sketch of Gandalf telling Frodo about Gollum. I am making this for a friend and he wanted Gollum at the top. Crits?

Only crit is that the ring doesn't look round. j/k. I like the composition very much: the fireplace, Gandalf, the ring, Gollum, Frodo... perfect! Just make sure you post the final version too!
Ungh... I can't wait until December when the movie comes out. |

thats an awesome painting. the only problem with this kind of subject is that everyone already "knows" what its supposed to look like because they've read the book. so everytime you see it painted its never quite right. i think so anyway. |

Personally, I think Gollum should be more bug-eyed and emaciated, and Frodo should have curly hair. But it's exactly like what edible said- we all have our own vision. And of course, the painting itself is great! Looking forward to the finished version. |

I think frodo looks too much like Moe from the 3 stooges(plus he looks like he has to go to the bathroom) and Golum needs to look more amphibian, he just looks like an old fat guy to me. Gandalf should be making some grand getsure since he liked theatrics to hammer his point home. Maybe leaning into and over Frodo, with frodo leaning back with wide eyes.
But i'm new here, so take it for what its worth... |

Not enough contrast in the image overall, and there ought to be a little more detail in Gollum in the finished piece (IMHO). Cool take on this subject matter, though. |

Very nice Anders! Can't wait to see this finished!!
Frodo looks abit to old for that part of the story. Remember he just entered manhood a couple of years earlier when Gandalf tells him about the Ring n' stuff. As other have mentioned Gollum could be more animal like. Have you seen the versions of Gollum that Alan Lee did for the illustrated LOTR? In my opinion that version of Gollum is spot on.

Hey, that's a pretty good pic.. although these fellas don't look like that in real life (i should know), you did a good job.
i like gandalf's figure better than frodo's- the light works better on him, with frodo tending to get muddy in places. i also think you should also try cropping the image differently, right now it feels a bitempty and unbalanced. |
