Hi,
Well, after lurking for months, I thought I would post a work in progress. It's a concept painting from a story that I have been working on, called the Millenium Wars Universe.

I've included a short description with the image on the following page: http://www.geocities.com/sheriftariq/scorpius_dying.html

And here's a direct link to the image: http://www.geocities.com/sheriftariq/images/scorpius_dying.jpg
(Note: the fp.geocities.com hack doesn't work.)

It's quite a way from being complete, but I thought I would get some general feedback, if possible.

Update: added some layers that were missing in the original image, some more detail, image file-size halved.

Thanks in advance.

Not bad, but you really haven't got the vortex thing right. Think more water going to the bath plug-hole. Like the ship destruction though, and of course it's about 10,000 times better than I can do...

I like the concept here sheriftariq.

I'd suggest looking at the wonderful amount of astronomy material available for free on the web. The subject matter is spectacular. Don't be afraid to pump those colours up.

I didn't have much time so this is still very rough, but I was trying to capture a little of the glorious colours present in the Hubble images.

Good luck!

Hmm...re-thought this one. A black hole would be drawing all kinds of gases and material towards it. Needed ALOT more atomosphere...

Wow. Thanks for reworking the images, Visual Myriad. They're beautifully done. I especially like the first one. Since the planet is orbiting a black hole, the surface of the planet itself should be quite dark, except for the light reflected off the clouds of dust being sucked into the dead star.

As you suggested, I have been scouring the web, looking for reference material for galaxies and stars. Hopefully, I'll have an updated version up in a few days.

Thanks to everyone for all the feedback

Ahh! But you can see the massive amounts of material thrown off by the radiation leaving the materials approaching the event horizon. Only the material inside the sphere of influence within the event horizon is invisible.

Any way, black holes are kewl.
