Here is a female barbarian I did in painter classic. It turned out a lil odd, mainly because I improvised and rushed it. A friend thought she looks male, due to the big red nose...
Now, I don't intend to fix this image, but if I were to make another simular one, what advice would you like to give me?

Very nice.. I really like the face. What brush in painter classic did you use to make this? |

Thanks.
Painter Classic has a very limited set of tools and only 2 layers to work with, normal and wet. I used the water tools and the diffusion tool for this one.
I don't have a favoutite media, I paint in both PS and Painter, aswell as natural media like acryllics or watercolor.
But I have the same problem with all medias, I don't spend enough time on my pics, mostly just a couple of hours. |

I think the nose is fine, not too big, maybe your friend was interpreting the shadows and depth as size. The face definitely appears feminine, the high cheekbones and almond eyes stand out as female characteristics IMHO.
I think if you could force yourself to revisit your work and stack some layers on the body you could really bring out some detail and depth. You have a great foundation to build on in this piece. |

That's wonderful. I'm still trying to figure out how to use the brush settings in P classic. Very disfferent form Pshop.
I like the colors in this - especially the diffused background suggesting some kind of army. |

Excellent! Although, I'm not too fond about the green color on her dress & sword. It is kinda damaging the "color -balance". But the face is very nice.. |

I really like this pic, I wouldnt change a thing, I think she looks female enough to be a barbarian. If you were going to change anything, accentuate the shadows a little more and get rid of the green slime on half the picture. It just looks out of place. |

Hmmmm, I like the big red nose! But the right eye looks a little larger than the left. The only other thing is if that belt is on her waist then I think it should come down a little lower and so should her arms. But you really captured Jason's style of the Icewind portraits (perhaps a tiny bit more backing detail?). |

Excellent! Very painterly...no pun intended...the eyes are noticeably different, and I think too different to call it mere asymmetry..also, her right arm seems to be posed oddly, and seems a bit small for her head size..I'd make the hand slightly more substantial (and still feminine) other than that, this is excellent!
Oh yeah, I'd spell 'simular' differently next time, like this 'similar'.
Ha! Good job..

Sweet stuff! I love the rough look. As for crits-
One eye is much larger than the other, this kinda throws off the facial balance. Also, because that same eye is the only one with a highlight, it makes it really kinda stand out from the other.
She stands out a bit too much from the background. You've got the very soft, diffuse lighting of a foggy morning, and the right color scheme, but none of that fog overlaps her, nor does it cause the shadowy figures in the back to recede progressively. Were you to use a more dramatic value change going back, it would increase the feeling of depth, and make her seem more an actual part of the scene.
Beautiful rendering none the less. Keep posting this good stuff!
PS- thank you for not doing yet another "Bimbo with a sword" image. This women looks like she's actually capable of doing battle. ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

Drimmen. Yeah, I know I need to revisit my work, sadly I'm too lazy. When I draw I often find myself blind to what I'm doing. I should stop and think more often.
Pixualize. Thanks, its quite easy to do backgrounds like that.
Binke. Yea, it's an old habit I'm trying to lay off... unsuccesfully. I rarely draw from life. Most of my pics are made from scratch, improvised and without reference.
Patrick. That green slime was supposed to be a second lightsource, like the green one used in the movie Excalibur. I'll skip it next time. It's such a cheap trick.
Etah D'Te. You're right.
NukleoN. I oftem mess up proportions, especially when spending too much time on a detail (the head in this case). Similar, similar, similar. Hmmm?
Lukias. I playes Icewind Dale at a friends place and was more impressed by the art than the game itself...
Wakestarr. Well, I don't have a style, I draw manga and other stuff aswell.
Frostfyre. Eyes, yes, apparently. And yea, the background is cheap, I agree with your crits there. It's way to flat.
Btw, I do bimbos with swords too ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Not sure but, it looks as if her eyes are a bit off centered. The left eye seems lower than the right. Other than that, its got a nice painterly look to it, I like that!
K~
