I didn't really want to do this, but I guess I have to. First off, I would like to say that the influence I get from synj is purely drawing flash cartoons. I would not use something of this quality(what I did, not implying anything negative about synj's work) for a commercial work ever, as I said this is for a simple school project. When I said I go to his site all the time, what I should have said is that I frequently go to his site to look at his 3d animations. While that is not to say I haven't seen some of his flash animations, that is not my main purpose for going to his site. Getting on to why I made the game I did... I have done flash projects for school work in the past, and they have involved minimal cartoons. I have wanted to attempt some kind of small flash game, and this project presented itself as an opportunity to do so. My project was about Chinese holistic healing, which in the book I got was about planning diets and eating certain foods to heal. Hence, the food portion of the animation. Since the book talked about how Americans are in traditionally poor health, and the character would be eating, I decided to make him fat. I then decided to make his expression a common comic Chinese one. I then made him blue, because it is one of my favorite colors to use. I thought this was a common color in general. For example, this whole site is mainly blue. In addition, flash 4 has a limited color palette so there are few blues to choose from. It was even further limited because I wanted to use a lighter color so his facial features would show up. I was trying to come up with a name in math class, and in one of the most suspicious moves, I admit, I chose feed the fatty. While I will explain why I chose this name I realize that even though I came up with it on my own it is far to similar to synj's to actually use. I'm sure it would be considered copyright infringement. I originally decided on the name because of the alliteration it uses(rhyme scheme with two common consonant sounds beginning it). However, it was unknowingly similar to synj's, so I must change it. The whole "humor" of the movie, is supposed to be when the Chinese guy 'feeds' the fat guy. It is a completely different focus that synj's movie. My movie mainly focused around learning actionscript for the quiz portion. I decided to make animations for positive and negative responses depending one wether or not the user got the question right. This is fairly common in games such as this. The positive answer was obvious, a smile. The negative answer was also fairly obvious, throwing up is a common negative response to food. But with all this explanation, all I am trying to show you is that I did not set out with the intent to copy synj. Regardless of what the copyright laws are, because my game is considered similar by people I would not actually use it. I am not disputing your arguments, I am simply trying to show you that what I did was not copying, simply coincidental. |

natec.. way to A) resort to childish insults "ms. pac-man".. I presented myself in a calm and hopefully somewhat logical manner.
Obviously my arguments about the flash, blue, pointy ears, name, and content weren't satisfactory for your amazing deduction skills (no insult meant.) Therefore, i dont care. You could very well be right. I was presenting my opinion and didn't ask to be insulted and assaulted as if I had insulted your mother or something.
About edible visiting synj's site.. he had stated that he visited synj's site AFTER synj attacked him. And there still is a POSSIBILITY that he didn't see it..
I'm just finishing an animation of me getting the shit beat out of me, if that makes you feel better..

Dude,
Its just that the ideas are so totally similar...the general look and so on. I really don't think that you should worry about copyright stuff...doubt synj is all about that. Its about giving credit where it is due. Many times people see things and forget about them...then subconsciously add that in their work...I've done this. But in this case, its sooo similar.
I really don't get some of your explainations...but hey whatever. Maybe you truly never saw it. But, people that don't see the similarities are just nuts.
As for the "its not for commercial work" argument...plagarism is plagarism...period. Many people over the years have copied other works to learn, but most do not claim it as their own. This is the difference, again giving credit where it is due....
and hey maybe you didn't actually see his stuff...oh well...call me an sssholee

I know what your saying. I agree plagiarism is plagiarism. I meant to say that, but it may have gotten confused in all the writing you did. I will even admit that it's entirely possible I was subliminally influenced by synj's work. I told synj himself that I would do anything that would make him happy, short of confessing to copying when I did not. He said he might be happy, if and only if I admitted to copying because we "both know what I did." |

ehehe
that me/you image is old, dude. I just dug it back up. I wouldn't waste my time creating something for this thread (except for a really long typing thing which i'm probably about to do).
there is indeed a title on the flashgame. It's in the upperleft. You have astounding observation hehehe
[snip, snip snip snip, snip.]
I just want a little respect for the projects and personal style I've been developing over quite a long time. I'm more than happy to do the same for any of you.
but I'd still steal any children you might have in the future and eat them.

Its blatent copying. It wouldnt be too bad if he gave credit to synj but he was like "Oh I never saw that before.." Which if you look at both is total horseshit. If I was synj I would grab your lying ass by the throat and punch my fist through your skull. I would finish off by pooping in the newly created cavity and sealing it with THE FUCKING PUS THAT ERUPTED FROM THE ZITS ON YOUR FACE WHEN I MASHED IT...YEAH.
On another note its lunch and Im hungry |

First of all, there is no need to start swearing at everyone. I think we have already proved that flamewars don't solve anything. I could go into a long and logical explanation about how I thought of the idea, and how I didn't copy him, but no one would believe me. This guilty until proven innocent atmosphere really discourages people from posting. I am trying to be calm about this, but having people repeatedly insulting me and calling me a copier is getting to me. Whats almost as bad, are people saying that copying someone and taking the credit is ok. I don't condone copying, and its not what I did. I do agree that there are similarities, of course his is more well done. But logically, if I did copy him for a pointless school assignment, there would be no reasoning behind putting it on this message board. I attempted to share with other people something I am interested in, and possibly get ideas on how to better work on animation. Instead, I was labelled a copier, and immediately attacked. I don't think I will try to continue explaining myself because people have already made up their minds. But I will say I hope that you can realize that the similarities are purely unintentional, and understand what I was trying to do. |

EVERYTHING
let's analyze the elements that are different
