This is a new test render of a piece that I originally created about a year ago, but was never happy with. I'm not finished yet, and still want to refine the cropping/composition and add more stuff to the foreground (pebbles, grass, et cetera), but I'd appreciate any comments you may have at this point.
Pardon the blurry areas . . . I've been experimenting with ways of dulling unimportant details . . . this is something that painters do almost automatically, but that you have to work at in 3D
If you want to see the older version:

I think its pretty flat and lifeless, which is why I'm doing this new revision.
Feedback is greatly appreciated! |

Looks good, but you might want to blur the sand a bit too. It looks too... well.. bump-mapped. I think there's more little grainy stuff going on than you'd probably see in real life. Otherwise it looks great, and is a definite improvement over the original. |

One of your more recent pieces had a cinder block in a puddle of water in the foreground. This one needs a similar foreground element. Right now there isn't really anything to look at. The more cliche choices would be a skull or a wagon wheel but I think you can probably come up something better than those. What you've got going though, looks great, I can't wait to see it finished. |

Wow, incredible. I didn't realize it was a 3d rendering at first. Definetly a lot better than an older version. I don't think the blurred areas are doing too much good though.
Makes you wanna drop a Boba Fett or a pod racer somewhere in the picture ![](images/smiles/icon_cool.gif) |

How, exactly, are you blurring those areas? BTW, the new version is much more punchy!

Thanks guys.
Pat: The blur is done by copying the image in Photo-Paint, and pasting as a new layer. I then run a couple Gaussian blurs and a noise filter on it, and erase away any parts that I want to keep crisp. Its a similar technique to what Disney was calling "Deep Canvas" when they were working on Tarzan . . . you're basically just combining a blurred image with a crisp one in some logical manner. |
