Hello!

Ive got a problem: I created that 3D-guy
and wanted to texture him.
Oh, I really hate this texture......
He should wear a blueish armour with
scratches on the surface (caused from bullets)... I searched the Web, but found
only copper and rusted metal shaders....

I hope somebody can help me

By the way: geocities.... just drag and drop the link to the URL-Bar

hoi hoi!

"shader"?

I am not sure if i understood your question right: did you mean you search for a texture map w/ bullet holes and scratches for an otherwise smooth surface
or are you searching for a procedural texture or something like that.

if you search for the first: why don't you just paint it in photoshop/gimp/paintshop or whatever painting application you have available and assign it as bumpmap then?

but probably you meant something else..

Well, I`d like to use a procedural texture
(Maya=Shader).... make things much more easier.....
photoshop: I`ll try it, although I`ve to mention that I am not very talented in this way of texturing (Couloured metal plates
is a very difficult task).

Thanks guys

How's your mapping on the armor? Applying UVs which fit the armor with some work then unwrapping the texture surface and editing the texture in photoshop would be my way to go... I don't beleive in material properties to take care of the complete rendering of a surface for me... too many intricacies and small details need attention, a simple general-purpose and loose material simply cannot do.

Frost, I think you`re right. I`ll have to unwrap the texture coordinates and edit
them in Photoshop.....detail is very essential.

Thanks for your replies,

www.outrage.com/4_maya.html
they got a coo plugin that lets u do it a lil faster than using Texture View....
yeah, for kickass metal armor, you should look into some of the properties of a cool metal shader and just make the bump map for the scratches and other stuff in photoshop.... you can go really deep into doing this (the shader, not the bump), just depends on how much time you wonna spend on making it look really kickass.... (i'm guessing you wonna make it look as good as the face already does)
let us know your progress so we can help you out some more
