Hi,
Here is a landscape scene at night. A sole dying tree on a rocky hill, overlooking a lake, drawn basically to practise lightning. So first question : Is the lighting proper ?

I also need to know what to do with the plain sky, does the moon reflection in the water need to be moved. Is the light on the hill bright enough, considering the brightness of the rest of the moonlit areas. And are the clouds too big ? Finally, I would like some suggestions on how to improve the water. I would think of this picture as a 'painting' more than actually mirroring a photograph, so anything I can do to make it look better (even if less realistic? ) Also, other comments and suggestions are most welcome.

this has potential to be a very cool image. yes i would like to see the reflection corrected it should be directly underneath the moon you will need to change the composition a little perhaps you could widen the scene a bit. you also need to work on adding some detail to the moon and where the clouds overlap the moon and for the empty night sky mmmmm..how bout some stars but only a few, and vary their brightness(they should be somewhat faint) i suggest maybe taking a few minutes to go outside at night to observe the moon and stars
for the lake perhaps looking up some refrence pics or if you live near a lake event better, just go and observe the reflection for yourself

you got some really cool stylish type clouds in the upper left.
perhaps you could stretch the one bunch so they don't look so crowded into the image and maybe put a small bunch in distance to add some depth

Thanks for all your suggestions. Here is the revised image. Added some stars to the background, and some highlights on the rock (cant really say why, but i dont think its been properly done... any ideas on what i have done wrong ?) Also added another cloud and some colour (very faint) to the moon.



I've put in some stars. Have I put in too many ? I've noticed that you generally see lots of them, or you cant see any. As for the part where the cloud overlaps the moon.. do you want me to make that part brighter ?

its looking better i think but the moon need to have other colors not just white.
add some of the shadows of the moon
i call it the bunny on a full moon the shadows look like a sideways bunny.
but yeah add some of the moon shadows maybe even a little blue to highlight it.
Here is something i did with lots and lots of light notice how the blue brings out the light

anyway, great picture. The thing that I think you may need to study more is water. Water commonly is not jsut a blanket of blue. If you ever gone out to lakes or ponds at night, where there is moonlight, you'll notice that there is a reflection(which you have now) and much more. Keep in mind htat no matter what, water will never be completely still...or actaully it could be...but very rarely. That is because there are always hot water currents and critters swimming around inside. The light of the moon not only casts a reflection, but acts like a light source and should add some light and shadows to the water...

I have this feeling that I'm rambling on and on.. here's what im talking about
