Just thought I'd bring this to everyone's attention again, since I would really like some feedback.

His pose and expression is OK. The body is slim, and considering an average elf(-ish person), its just right. His left leg seems to have slight problems, for ex. see the behind of the knee joint, is it missing a stroke? Also, try loosening up that left hand grip some, maybe.

But overall, I see a pretty nice scetch here indeed. Go ahead and colour it.

( Did I sound like a professional? I definitely ain't one! )

the weight of his right arm doesn't seem to be right. It's as though he were just holding his arm in that position rather than resting it on his leg or with his thumb in a pocket.

photograph someone in the same stance to get the reference. its very difficult to make up every little aspect of a pose and make it look just right. other than that NICE gestural line strokes. just about the best ones i've seen on this forum.

Thanks for the comments, Sarge. I'm not sure what you mean by the left knee joint (can you elaborate?), but I think that the problem is that the left leg is pointing parallel to the picture plane, when it should be pointing out of it slightly.

By the way, do you have any suggestions on improving the pose?

What do you guys think of the actual character/picture, as a whole? When you look at it do you think "cool" or "nyeah..."?
My goal is to be able to come up with images that are more striking/provocative.

Pigeon - I'll fix the arm and hand.
Phil - I wish I had a digital camera! And thanks for the compliment.

Nice line quality and blocked-in forms.
It could have a lot more impact if the figure was foreshortened more. It looks like the shoulders and the feet are both viewed from straight on, but we also see a lot of the top of the head.
Also, the hands seem very delicate- almost feminine. Make the far hand grab the ax more, and open up the other hand. Good time for photo ref. Try to sit low on the ground and sketch someone standing over you.
Try blocking in some shadows. Don't be afraid to go DARK with cast shadows if you want the drawing to have a lot of impact.

Hey rocket_sled: I think I like the slightly feminine hands and also the view angle. As far as the top of the head being visible, that comes from it's forward tilt; I don't really see anything like the mismatch you were talking about. As for lighting, I want to have an early evening sky (with the sun just below the horizon) and some soft foreground lighting to illuminate the figure--it's pretty intimidating, but I'll give it a shot soon. Thanks for the observations and comments.

I tried to fix the right hand, but only made it worse. The left leg still does not show strain from the weight of the body, but I think I will leave that--it's a tough problem I'll deal with later in other drawings. Here is an update on the image:

I posted this one in the finished gallery, but I think I will do further work on it now.
