Hi all! This forum is just amazing. Here's a work in progress for a short comic book story I've been working on. Any feedback on lighting, painting technique, etc is very welcome, as I'm kinda new to doing 2D CG. Thanks for all of your inspiring images!

Hey that's cool, nice lighting and all.
I think maybe the character's left boot would catch a little warm light aswell.
Should be a good comic

Nah... I'm not so sure bout the lightning... there's no cast shadow at all. And the blue lightsource wouldn't dominate like that if the background looks like it looks

Wow, thanks for the responses! I had a little time to incorporate some of the feedback. I'm still not happy with the hair, and in looking at it, I think my perspective may be off on her fore arm.

I'm going for an "early morning" kinda feel, preferably a cold one. At the same time, I want to go with some saturated color. As this is only one panel, I'm not sure how far I should push it?

Anyway, thanks, here's the update for your critique

I tried to help... here's what I came up with... I erased the white areas completely. Since there are only two lightsources. A blue and a yellow one. There where neither the blue nor the yellow hits the body is usually shadow. That's what they told me.

Ah... whatever... maybe you see a thing or two you like

Thanks for the helper image! I particularly like what you did with the shading and the edges. I'll post again when I've got a better version!

Hey folks, I did a little more work on that image. Here's the result:

I know there are some issues with perspectve on the head, but I'm not sure how to correct them best. Also, I'm still working the lighting, sa I want an early morning feel, but I seem to be getting a sunset feel...

Anyways, Enjoy!

I like the progression, I won't try to help you with the hair but it doesn't look so bad to me. Is the lighting in this one going to be like the previous version, I think that had a nice sunrise feel to it.
It's great, keep it goin

Hallo All!

Had a chance to tweak the lighting a bit. I'm convinved now that I'm just going to have to get up and actually video/photograph lighting conditions at that time of day (sunrise), because so far, I'm just not getting that distinct sense of time that I'm looking for. Before the end of the week I should have it nailed. Time of day is important to the storyline, which is why I'm spending so much "time" on this image.

Unit- thanks for the kind words I'm thinking the previous lighting felt more like sunset than sunrise, so I'm still working it. I like the hair better in this version too, actually!

So, Tuesday morning I went out and actually looked around at pre-dawn light and sunrise. Here's the resulting effect on the image. I think I'm a lot closer with the color scheme. Any crits welcome!
