Hi,

I would like to recover an old picture of my father, if possible i also would like to color it. can anybody help me please?

The only way I know of thats possible is to actually get down and redraw small parts of it. I dont think there is any really easy way to do it. thats why it costs alot for some digital artists to do work like that because its a very involved process.

Ummm... I can't really help you with your problem... but I think if you are going to colour it you have to redo the whole picture anyway.. maybe you can do some minor changes within that progress...?

i think it�s very difficult to recover it but also not change too much on the picture what could destroy any details.

What you're proposing to do is very difficult. It will be nearly impossible to make it look like it was taken with a color camera, and not over-exposed and blurred. The only thing you can do there is repaint it, which takes an incredible amount of skill and patience.

However, that's not to say making it more realistic is the only way you can make it more aesthetically appealing. When I was little, my dad took a black-and-white photo of my sister and me, developed it, then colorized it using oil crayons. The purpose wasn't to make it look like he had taken a color photo - and in fact, it was a much more meaningful picture BECAUSE of the process he used. I wish I had a copy I could post - I'll see if I can track it down.

So as far as what you can do to restore this picture, look for its strengths, not its weaknesses. Keep the washed-out, blurry look. It gives it character. And if you continue with the colorization, don't even attempt to make it look real. Go watch an old colorized movie or two, see how they do it. It's a style all its own, and probably your best chance at success.
