As some of you know, I'm working on a series of pinup posters with a 1930s/40s feel but with a more modern flair... This is a pose concept for one of them...Took me 15 minutes... Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated... (she'll be resting her hands on the hilt of a sword btw)
Enjoy!

Great idea! I've been a long time admirer of Vargas' pinup girl paintings. She looks good, but seems maybe stiff somehow. Is she leaning forward? It's tough to see in the line drawing, maybe coloring and shading would help that. Super start though. |

I look forward to seeing the series. Comments would be that her neck seems a bit long, but I believe that is part of your style and also her calves seem a bit too large. My 2 cents...

otherwise good except it lacks the 30/40's pinup poster feel.. and just about every other feel as well.

umm those lines shouldn't take more than 1.5 minutes to draw and even then it'd be considered slow.

If I were gonna post a comment (which I am actually doing now), I would say she is too thin for a 40's pin-up. Remember, most galls then of the pin-up persuaison were very large (by today's standards). They wore sizes from the 12-22 range. Full figures meant healthy, not fat.
Translation: She needs meat on the bones. Add a gas station, WW2 airplane, coca cola banner or diner sign in the back and your in the right direction (IMHO).

I'm not sure a sword is a modern flair. Sounds midieval to me...
As for the figure, I always imagine gals in those antique posters having a more twisted pose, like a side shot with her kneeling and looking over her shoulder or something like that. |
