Hey folks... here's a sketch of a new piece I'm planning to do. The drawing will be made for someone *very* dear to me, and I want it too look good (the best I can do, at least).
I was wondering if you guys could try to shade it, to help me on my way... It's a good exercise too If you DO shade it, feel free to put it on your homepage or wherever you like
Problem is, I don't have the guts to apply extremely dark/light colours... so my paintings usually lack contrast. Ugh |

oscar, here's my comment
To be honest, I wouldn't try to make something special out jesus by doing him more powerful (conanish). It's a bit cheesy in my opinion....especially since you are going to give this to your girlfriend
I don't think it matters that much if you exaggerate in the matter doing it cartoonish or not, just don't make a superhero character out of him.
how about something more like this ?!?
just my two cents

Jesus was a carpenter for most of his life... he wasnt exactly the wuss alot of tv and movies make him out to be.
not that I think he looked like superman or anything but he definately wasnt a wimp.
and if you dont agree with me go check it out. Joseph (his dad) was a carpenter and according to society of the time, sons always did what their family trade was.. meaning that before his ministry he was helping his dad build stuff.
heh heh... not that this is meant to start a debate or anything. just my two cents.
BTW... great pics.. I like the superhero pose too.. Just dont think its very Jesus-esque and Joachim.. your sketches amaze me as always.

JC = Jesus Christ
JC = John Carmack
Coincidence?
Note: This is not meant as blasphemy |

I'm interested the original concept (if there's any). Pumped up JC decides not to hang in there a few days suffering and die, but rip himself free and walk away, right?
I'm no religious type or anything but isn't he supposed to sacrifice himself for all our sins and stuff, if he would have run off like that there wouldn't be christianity today as we know it. Very selfish idea of Jesus indeed.
Nice scetch in every case. |

You know what, you guys are right. My sketch was a disgrace to Christianity. I hope you guys will like this one better...
It's still extremely rough... The reason for that is because I'm still not sure whether I want to shade it Saffron-wise or Dhabih-wise. Hmm... Please tell me if you see anything wrong with the pic. |

Oscar, that is much better !!!!
I think the motif works better this way too. And, I don't think you need to clean up the character that much more either. Could be nice if you tweaked the background colors a bit...maybe look at some color references on some pictures...and then tweak the values after that. But, good going.
